Redfearn

There's a 'brushes with the stars' thing in the Guardian's daily football email and yesterday's mail included this:

“Back in the early-90s, I spotted the then-Oldham Athletic midfield dynamo Neil Redfearn (now Nasty Leeds gaffer) in front of me at the cash machine in Rochdale town centre. As he turned around, the best I could come up with was ‘I hope you’ve left some money in there for me Neil’, to which he replied: ‘Yes, of course’”

Had Mark Hughes sat behind me at Wembley when we got stuffed by Bristol City in the FreightRoverSherpawhatever. Turned out he was a mate of Tony Caldwell.

I went round Nigel Twiston-Davies stable then on the way to lunch with him and his wife we called at Peter Scudamore's house to pick up his wife. Some great trophies in that house.

Had already met PS in a private box at Gloucester Rfc.

I shoulder charged John Toshack in Swansea town centre once although my wife says I just bumped into him.

I nearly asked Ricky Hatton for a dead arm on the way to the Reebok when we had City at home a few years back

Bottled it though

I saw David Wheater last night in Chorley.

He was with Gary Caldwell and Mike Pollitt, who I took great delight in showing my "Wigan to be relegated" bet at 18/1 haha

Why would anyone go out round Chorley? , Let alone highly paid footballers.

Mounts

Always have a good drink round Chorley after the pre-season friendly.

Used to live in west London not too far from the BBC so there'd be various faces on show or things being filmed.  So walking up the road past a scrap yard in Acton out pops Dr Who (the one who's a fat cunt now) and a cyberman (with his helmet off) having a crafty ciggy. Saw Kate Adie  in Safeway's and nearly shat me'sen - thought summat must about to kick of if she's here. Car lot just round from  there was where I bought my first car and the fact that they used it to film the 2nd incarnation of Minder (the crap one with the poncy looking bloke who never appeared in anything again) probably explains why within a few weeks it would only go into 3rd or reverse. A few hundred yards from there was a newsagents and I stood behind Linford Christie queuing up before he was quite so famous.

I met Stephen Hawking in the square in Madrid - he was banging on about how some bitch had stole his wallet.

(that's not true, though, despite video evidence to the contrary - but  I did actually go to a Stephen Hawking talk where it all booted off, punches thrown etc)

I was behind Clive Lloyd in Wilmslow's Johnsons the Cleaners.

He had taken advantage of their fourteen for the price of seven offer before going off on tour, but was checking all his whites very closely to ensure no grass stains left on.

Took ages to get served.

As a kid went round a cash and carry with the parents. They were running a promotion for a new snack called 'football crazy'. I went in these small nets while some bloke took three penalties at me, including the last which he twatted. Was presented with a box full of snacks off him, then my dad made me go back and ask for his autograph. It was Duncan Mckenzie
