March 9, 201511 yr Whilst running the risk of having the piss taken out of me for sounding like a Liverpool fan, why do we not do more to recognise this? Without ramming it down people's throats, surely a minutes applause on 33 minutes is easily manageable? No one should ever have to go to a match and not return home, I couldn't begin imagine the heartache caused. RIP the 33, gone but never forgotten

March 9, 201511 yr An act of simple remembrance rather than the full on Anfield vigil is much more the Bolton way. My grandfather was on that day. Never got over it and could not bring himself to go the Burnden ever again. RIP the 33.

March 9, 201511 yr RIP to all those lost that day. A dreadful thing to happen to our fellow fans. Not to go OTT, but the town hall flags at half mast and similar gestures of remembrance would be fitting. Thank goodness my dad took one look at the crowds besieging Burnden and changed his mind. He would have been in the middle of the disaster area.

March 9, 201511 yr My Grandad was there too - on the Lever End though. Got home afterwards and all the women in the street were waiting outside their homes for their men and boys to come home. RIP the 33.
March 9, 201511 yr My dad was on the Lever End that day with his dad. They didn't even know that anyone had been killed until they got home. Not sure about a minutes applause. That's more fitting when remembering a great player rather than a tragedy. Black armbands and a minutes silence at the home game nearest the disaster would suffice, if only to remind some of our own what happened. There's probably quite a few who aren't even aware of it.
March 9, 201511 yr My grandad was there on that day and was pulled out of the crowd and he went straight home "shaking like a shitting dog" I've heard the clubs next shirt with have all the 33 names in it similar to the green 1 they did this year
March 9, 201511 yr I only found out recently that my grandfather was there. I didn't even know he went to the match so maybe he never went again after seeing the tragedy. I think the shirt as a one off is a nice idea.
March 9, 201511 yr Same with my grandad Bolty, also his last game at Burnden he just couldn't go back to the place that he loved. Really sad eh? My grandad loved BWFC and football in general so much but it just shook him to the core. He was in a different part of the Embankment to his normal spot and could have been very unfortunate had the huge crowd not forced him to take up another position. My Grandma was at the markets at the back of Moor Lane bus station and told me that a dreadful hush fell on the market when the announcement was made. She ran all the way to Burnden sobbing. Couldn't find him - out of her mind with worry. Nothing to do but go home where she found him by the fireplace with a pint pot of strong tea smookin' a Park Drive! She gave him a slap for making her worry!!!!! Even at the height of Lofty's greatness he just couldn't bring himself to visit Burnden ever again.
