Spearing payments were 2 different things. He was due this 333k regardless if he was here on the last year of his contract. The payment for last season was if he plays over half the games in the championship at 100k. Iirc it isn't applicable in L1

I'm sure he'd be one of the first out of the door if we could get rid of him......I would imagine it would need to be a decent Championship club who would need to sign him though, as his wage will be too much for most non-PL sides.
