Between now and Jan, I can see that it'll be loans from Prem or others in our Div again, but for the Jan window I'd like to see us, for once, have a look downwards rather than upwards. We've been stuck in a cycle for the last couple of seasons of always seeming to think we have to sign players from Prem or Championship, even if they're cast-offs from others in the bottom half of the Championship.

Our wage capacity is modest, but surely worth taking a punt on someone who's at the younger end of the age scale and shown he can score goals at League 1 level, plenty of those have worked for other Championship teams in recent seasons.

Michu considering retirement at 29 due to being unable to find a club. Something more to this me thinks?

Loaded and can't be arsed plugging away at the lower levels?

The reason we aren't and won't do that is because those players are very expensive. And we have nothing to spend.

tis a good point

i dunno what one of those would cost, but we definitely wouldn't get a try before you buy deal

Is he loaded for life. A couple of years at the top? I don't know

Me neither if I'm honest, but he's probably earned more than I'll ever earn. Guess it depends on what you earn and how well you've invested the money you picked up. But if you can't face a Tuesday night battle in Bolton for buttons for a year or two, makes sense.

Or there is always the Middle East, US or Australia for semi-retirement...

Clayton is the type of player being discussed and barring his serious injury he'd have been a lot more involved.

Of the squad yesterday I'd only consider Spearing as a player we've over reached and over paid for.

Him and Davies will be the squads top earners so if he's not going to contribute he needs to go to someone who'll cover at least some of his wages.

Clayton should be a ready made replacement for Clough in a couple of weeks time, but Clayton is still only a youngster and he's hardly been prolific so far in his career. Can't  see Clayton & Madine banging the goals in sadly.

Know what you're saying, and that's probably where we are just now, though it'll cost a lot more than that if we go down.

Madine has no track record of scoring goals at Championship level, no evidence to back the idea that he'll get one and the floodgates will open. Only things I'd say in his defence is that he's looked most likely to score with his head and he's hardly had a decent cross stuck on his head in either of the last couple of games

Madine has to model himself on a poor mans Kevin Davies, but hes not got a Kevin Nolan to score goals from the mayhem he can cause, if he did he would be looked at in a different light, mind you he is someway to go to cause the problems KD caused but he is still young enough to get there.

Are you making this shit up? He scored 26 in 67 games for Sheff Wednesday in League one.

He scored 23 in 60 games in League One, if you want to be precise.......and then 3 in 31 games in the Chamiponship

The 10/11 season was a good one for him, he scored 18 goals in 38 league games.

I'm hoping he will score goals a plenty, but he's only just averaging 1 goal every 4 games at the minute over his career, which isn't great if we're hoping he'll our "goalscorer"

He's 25 not near his peak he's had lots of trouble granted his own making last few years which has hampered his progress I think if we get behind him show him a bit of love he will do well for us, he has scored goals as you've now pointed out that's why I didn't understand your original inaccurate comment.
