1. Football World Cup.

2. Summer Olympics.

3. Euro Championships.

4. Winter Olympics.

Just glad that football doesn't require a team to give the ball to the opposition if they've not had a shot after half a dozen passes.

As for domestic games, I thought they said on 5Live this morning that domestic RU Premiership games now have an average attendance of 13,000 and the Super League average attendances were just below 10,000    -   I wasn't really listening though, so it might have been the other way around.

I've just had a look, I can;t find any attendance figures for the RL clubs, but last year the average figures for the big RU clubs were;

 

Leicester @ 22,487

Harlequins @ 18,750

Saracens @ 15,426

Wasps @ 14,165

 

Average across league: 12,693

I'm not sure any RL club gets clubs much over about 12,000 do they?

 

 

We know attendances don't really mean a great deal (otherwise we get into Newcastle United territory...) - but I suppose it does dispel the myth that nobody bothers with domestic games.

They are very different games, to be honest, so I don't see the issue.

 

However, I know which crowd I'd rather be sat in to watch a live game. I've been to Twickenham, Stade de France, Leicester and Sale watching union and the majority of the spectators are insufferable fucking whoppers. Several thousand popinjays trying to out-cunt one another with their chinless faces and Adam's Apples bigger than a football. With the notable exception of Leicester - they were ok.

 

A game of RL up north is as far removed as it's possible to get.

 

I think this may be the main issue amongst RL fans, truth be told. I fully understand it.

I do like watching the super league on the telly. But must admit to enjoying watching England in the union and I'll be watching as much of the wc as I can.

Can't wait. All 8.00pm kick offs Friday/Saturday.

 

If you mean England's group matches, that correct.

But there are loads of earlier matches featuring others.

And England's potential QF and SF times are 4pm (Sat or Sun).

The final is also 4pm Sat, but for your convenience the 3rd/4th match is 8pm Fri.

If you swop Biarritz for Paris I have watched rugby at all those grounds and you must have a very low threshold for what you consider posh.

 

The crowd at Sale are the same solid, middle class types you get in the Upper West at the Macron, a million miles from the clichéd description you gave.

 

The crowd at HQ are as patriotic as any in the country, decent sorts and no different to the folk who go to Test cricket (other than Headingley obvs),

 

The only chinless type I remember seeing was Prince Harry and you couldn't get near him for people bowing.

Poncing Nigels

On the poncy scale, top level football isn't far off Rugger these days.

I went to Twickers a couple of years back, enjoyed it but won't be rushing back.

I went to Twickenham for the Middlesex 7s about 20yrs ago when Wigan RL turned up, and they absolutely stuffed everybody. I think I made it in the ground for a couple of matches that year, but again spent most of my time in the hospitality tent. It was one of the best days out I've ever had I think
