The Food Hall has opened at Bolton Market. Had a mooch around. Didn’t buy anything but it both looks and smells good. Various stalls with a variety of foods and a small bar.  I’ve said previously, t

It seems anyone with any amount of sense heads to manchester for a night out.

this fucking about with the trains is a right pain in the arse for getting into Manchester. We still find a way as you're right, whatever your scene is there's something for everyone. Granted it's a city but....

Much as I may hate to say it Bury has pretty much got it right imo

I go to the market about once a month and occasionally nip into the town centre to pick summat up

Pretty decent and admittedly very good for a Northern industrial town. Not perfect but always seems busy

No idea on the night life but daytime seems to be doing OK

Went to Bury last week, didn't see a single beggar, went into Bolton and no fucker speaks English.

Went to Bolton fish market a couple of months ago. Been to see my Mum on a saturday afternoon so thought I'd call in on the way home

Picked up some great bargains but it was like fucking Mogadishu. Going to get razor blades fitted to my elbows next time cos it felt they had them

Didn't spot which one was embankment's mate...........

I was in Bury yesterday, some loudmouth 'roidhead in fancy grey marls was having a domestic with his missus, loudly, outside the pub next to The Robert Peel, twat had a dyed beard an' all...Shattered my illusions of Bury as some Shangri-la.

Why are beards suddenly being dyed, black usually? Anyone with a beard looks a cunt, why compound the situation by dying it?

I've spent the last 6 years in Bolton and I've come to the conclusion it's not for me

So at my tender age I am leaving, not sure where yet but it has to be better

They must've gone into hiding then.

Unless you stuck to the Rock development which is private land so they get moved on.

There's usually about three on the area near the post office and Wilkinsons. One opposite McDonald's, then 2 near mothercare and oxfam. One outside the car park entrance to the millgate. One under each subway. A few on kay gardens and minden parade.

Mixture of our own bag heads and foreign beggars.

Bury is far from the miracle place folk seem determined to make out.

The admittedly fairly decent if identikit Rock aside it's just as shit as bolton.

Diamonds are moving. They only need to remove the "Centre of the North" bit and add an S.

just remove the th and put ks instead

Diamond Centre of kse North?

Morris let the pub next door have people drinking beer and smoking drugs in the street right next door to Prestons. Prestons apparently complained and the council did nowt as per. This is what I have heard as I decided eight years ago to never set foot in the town centre again, and I havent. Prestons is a high end business catering to people with a bit of money, and the councils decision to allow that to go on right next to a jewelers shop is nasty and typical of them, this is what I am hearing. If I was Prestons I would have seen the light and left more than a decade ago. Who would want to go and spend a bit of money in there with all that going on next door? You go in there and all the crims swan-necking through the window and plot to mug you or follow you. I lived in Bolton all my life, but will be fully gone within the next decade, Morris has ruined a wonderful town. All I see is mosques being built everywhere, and they are towering above all the other buildings. Bank street apparently looks like a  slum with deserted and derelict  buildings being set on fire by druggies, just across the road from a high end business. Again, I havent been there for a long time and wont be going again, I just get progress reports, I knew what was going to happen a long time ago and all is on track.  I heard a businessman wanted to open a Hotel in that vicinity and was repeatedly refused by Morris, it seems that any private business  is stamped out in spite of it constantly trying to bloom. Morris only wants places that are reliant on welfare and the town hall so they keep themselves in the town hall, or `one stop shop` apparently they insist on calling it : : : :::.The chavs keep on voting labour, those that even vote that is. Switch the lights out.

"Morris let the pub next door have people smoking drugs in the street right next door to Prestons."

Of course he did, he popped in one Saturday night and told the landlord it was fine.

Aye, it's all Morris' fault.

He wants to ruin Bolton.

Is he the new Gartside?

Hace recent improvements/developments in the TC been made despite Morris and not due to him?

These improvements, I had a look and the Market Hall is amazing. But it's only opening up what was already there and sticking a Nando's in. This doesn't justify what they did to the Market Hall in the first place i.e. made it akin to an airport. The rest of it really is on its arse.

So the market hall is alright now on the second time of redeveloping but the rest of the town is fucked? Well that's alright then. Well done Cliff for sorting the market hall out,

When I say alright, I mean to look at. I'd rather go to Pound Bakery than Prezzo and the bar down there is smaller than my front room.

I see that Cliff keeps getting all the blame.......how does he keep getting away with it? - do they not have elections in Bolton anymore? - if he's that bad, then surely he would be voted out

It wasn't a dig at you. Morris is the leader of the council that has wrecked the town, yep, he's responsible. Well, actually he's irresponsible.

and back to my point, and not a dig/go at you S.......but he still keeps getting voted in, so surely if he has form for ruining the town, and keeps getting in, then surely the people of Bolton only have themselves to blame

Sort of, Bury is Labour, is it not? You can only vote for what's put in front of you.

he's the councillor for an area where he appeases the locals. I have to say though everybody in Htown hates the council yet we have labour councillors voted in this time who I doubt disagree with their leader. I wish I had the answer as to why but other than the apathy of the public I really don't know why they're allowed to carry on doing what they do. It feels like the town is run by a mafia except I reckon a real mafia would do a better job,

Plus, and yes it does sound like a broken record on here but I genuinely believe the policy of making Bolton a gateway town has been a factor in wrecking the place. Short term cash to house these people with no thought of the long term issues.

I'm not sure I'll living here much longer but it is sad to see the place go downhill so much,

Unlike bolton it has been tory in the recent past I think it's about equal at the minute I think it's just about a labour council.

The minutes for Council meeting are "interesting". There's fuck all mention of anything important and loads of purile point scoring. Basically loads of twats going "that's you that is".

Been in a few Council meetings and they all seem to have an exact knowledge of how much has been spent in each ward. So if one area has a couple more schemes in it than theirs they get all shirty.

Reckon I had the best of times in Bolton

Drinking in The Howcroft, Lower Nags Head, Swan Cellar, Old Three Crowns, Corks, etc, etc

Shopping in the Market Hall before the Market Place

Saturday afternoon with the Mods and Rockers chasing each other all over town

Footy at Burnden

Free parking in the town centre to do a quick nip to the shops

Butchers, bakers, ironmongers, grocers, the lot everywhere you went

Left in 2002, only to Manc, but it just gets worse with every passing week that I visit my Mum

Who else can possibly take the blame but the council? In the town centre they drove shoppers out with stupid parking charges, drove retailers out with the rents, and allowed Deansgate, Bradshawgate, Nelson Square and Bank Street to become absolute fucking shitholes. The market is appalling and the dereliction around Moor Lane/Spa Road/Deansgate is appalling. The decline is truly shocking. I'm glad that I remember better times

Been in town, pissed up dickheads kicking off outside Elephant and Castle, that was at half 5!
