July 28, 201610 yr I went in there last Christmas and I'm not surprised it's shutting down. Massively overpriced and seemingly no idea what it's target market is. Its been dead on its arse for years. They can blame cliff and the council til they're blue in the face but if their stock is shite then they're hardly going to be successful. A decent department store where Whittakers is should be doing a roaring trade. But old people market clothes at designer prices isn't going to keep the place going.
July 28, 201610 yr I went in BHS t'other day to see what we'd be losing...Not a lot, shite stock - including black men's trousers that were shiny due to the polyester content. Most of the stuff was half price because of the closure and still overpriced for the quality...Seen better quality shoes in shitty George section at Asda, no wonder they've gone bust. The example of Woolworths going pop should've taught retailers a lesson -if you're charging a premium, you'd better sell reasonable quality, not fucking shite. Now Beales has gone the same way, due to the same problem. I reckon' another budget meat place would do for the empty property, pig's dicks three for a quid.

July 28, 201610 yr They should have their own pants, their own socks...It's not right them wearing our stuff.
July 28, 201610 yr I supplied Beales a few months back their problem is they want stupid mark up want to but at a pound and sell for 4 while the likes of home and bargain would buy for pound and be happy to sell the same item for £2. It didn't help my case when I told the buyer just that.???? Edited July 28, 201610 yr by Mounts Kipper
July 28, 201610 yr JLP could make a go of the Beales store that would be a real coup for Bolton. More like JJB.
July 29, 201610 yr Everything started going to shit the day Rumbelows disappeared You're wrong there, Gonzo. The town died the day Hitchens closed.

August 1, 201610 yr Its been dead on its arse for years. They can blame cliff and the council til they're blue in the face but if their stock is shite then they're hardly going to be successful. If you don't get folk in town nobody is gonna make a do And that's a big fat FACT
August 1, 201610 yr I was in town on Sat and Sun, spent £4 at Costa, that's it. Not the only one not spending. Plenty parking tickets being dished out. Whittakers was like flies round shit. Put simply, town isn't a safe place for cashed up old dears to be, some baghead will have their cash and Murray Mints before they hit the shops.

Put simply, town isn't a safe place for cashed up old dears to be, some baghead will have their cash and Murray Mints before they hit the shops. Saturday and Sunday parking on the multi storeys is free so no excuses about parking being too expensive, for folk parking where they shouldn't be.
August 1, 201610 yr Ironically, they walk past cars on double yellow as they aren't proper traffic wardens.
August 1, 201610 yr Ironically, they walk past cars on double yellow as they aren't proper traffic wardens. If they're the NCP/Council ones then they are, if they're the parking eye types booking folk on the retail parks then they may as well be tickets written on biscuit wrappers
August 1, 201610 yr Nipped into Whitakers on Saturday, not been in since being dragged round by parents as a kid. Couldn't believe the prices, even at "heavily discounted" rates virtually everything was wildly overpriced. Duvet sets at £40 a pop after discount, wicker baskets at 30+ quid. No ones gonna pay those kind of prices for that. I live in the town centre and try to defend it where deserved, I like new places like the Coffee Grind near where the elephants used to be, but it was dismal on Saturday, completed by two Eastern European blokes having a punch-up in the middle of Great Moor Street with a load of gypos stood around egging them on
August 2, 201610 yr Really quite upset that Beales is closing... Me too - I'm struggling to find a pair of mustard chinos and a handcut glass giraffe elsewhere?
August 2, 201610 yr Me too - I'm struggling to find a pair of mustard chinos and a handcut glass giraffe elsewhere? Oh I think Bolton is still well served for clothing for gentlemen of advancing years, there is still Aults on Newport St, and Jon Francis in Harwood.
August 2, 201610 yr I think the shops in our town centre suit the people that shop in it, why else would they go to shop there? The housing around our town centre and in it, as well as the student accommodation being built next to the Jobcentreplus has really put the icing on the cake, wet clothes flapping outside Windows and the stink of weed isn't going to get it vibrant again. But what do I know?
