Saying on the radio earlier that when he announced this on his Truth Social, his entire staff must have thought "oh no" because he did sort of imply that people would be getting an actual cheque and some hard cash. Which they 100% won't, it's more likely (if it happens at all) to be given in the form of tax breaks (such as removing tax on tips and overtime etc) Quote
Spider Posted November 10, 2025 Posted November 10, 2025 I notice he’s retweeted something from a parody account about Obama claiming it’s true. Will he resign? Quote

Yep, the Beeb made an error, and the leadership have correctly accepted accountability and resigned. I think you’ll find that with us “lefties” on here - we find it easy to criticise both sides in any debate. A bit like Bolty does though sometimes you’ve just shot yourself in the foot, this time by bringing up Tommy Robinson. Anyone and everyone knows he’s a repulsive racist, so kind of undermines any point you’re trying to make. So are you seeing a bit of a trend? Quote

One mistake is one too many when you’re funded by the tax payer, so yes they’ve made a few mistakes of late with the (first) Trump Panorama documentary and the Gaza thingy. Not good enough. Ok? All it does is give justified fuel to those who claim bias. Most of what the Beeb does is superb, esp with drama, natural history, sport, kids programs etc. Well worth the licence fee. The news is by and large ok, with many top journalists, but agreed needs to sharpen up a bit. As I’ve said before a healthy sign is when those on the left and right are both moaning it’s biased. Shows it’s doing its job - reporting facts whilst challenging our beliefs and opinions. Quote
Spider Posted November 10, 2025 Posted November 10, 2025 Can anyone show me a news outlet that is verifiably and flawlessly unbiased? If not, show me the nearest news outlet that is. thanks Quote

Too many conflicts of interest with donations to corrupt politicians giving favours in return (anyone spring to mind 🤔). That’s why the Beeb (and any other public broadcasters left around the globe) are to be cherished. Quote

Their politics programmes are definitely more to the right in terms of presenters. The fact that heads have rolled shows that they are doing the right thing and not brushing it under the carpet. So what we're looking for, based on the ferocious arguments on this thread, is a news outlet that is as near to being unbiased as possible, whilst also accepting that even then, one or two staffers may fuck it up? Or, do we all just want overtly political news outlets that become an echo chamber for our own beliefs? Seems to be that everyone agrees GB News are on the right? Talk TV is on the right? The BBC get criticism from both sides so by definition is probably very close to centre? Quote
kent_white Posted November 10, 2025 Posted November 10, 2025 Given the absolute collosal output of the BBC - I'm surprised things like this don't crop up much more frequently. The fact that they do at all and are dealt with just makes me more confident that they are doing the right things! Heads should rightly roll for the Panorama programme though. There's no way this one slipped through the net accidentally - and it's been clearly manipulated to make the story sound more engaging than it otherwise might have been. Quote
Spider Posted November 10, 2025 Posted November 10, 2025 By the way, the snowflakey response is not very in keeping with a group of people who pretend they don’t get upset about such things. The screeching is ear-splitting 😁 Quote

Spider Posted November 10, 2025 Posted November 10, 2025 (edited) I'm going to sue Bolty for saying I'm from Wigan. I have all the evidence I need, and it is factually incorrect and extremely defamatory and hurtful. I'm setting the amount at 8 billion Australian tim tams unless he retracts his vile accusations and says he's sorry and that he's a big fatty with mental difficulties. On the town hall steps. The BBC isn't perfect - but it's light years ahead of any domestic or foreign broadcaster I've ever seen in terms of quality and output. I'll be fuming if any of my money ends up in that cunts pocket. Quote
