I get your point but my view is they have asked him or certainly want to play him. Too little too late. Certainly. Still a good gesture though imo.

That was my line of thinking at first, but if the club can't afford to pay his appearance fees, they can simply leave him out, so he's not really forfeiting anything he's "entitled" to.
