June 5, 201610 yr Is he the sportsperson that more people have heard of than anyone else? Surely, even people who don't care for sport have heard of Ali Must be between Ali and Pele Everybody, including those weirdos who don't like sport has heard of them two

June 5, 201610 yr Reckon he'd have beaten a young Tyson in his prime? I don't reckon so. Tyson was incredible and just smashed fuck out of people. I used to love watching Tyson

June 5, 201610 yr Reckon he'd have beaten a young Tyson in his prime? Ali in his young prime could well have done - Tyson would have to catch him, which wasn't easy to say the least. Plus foreman was as strong a hitter (at least) as Tyson and much bigger. And look what happened to him...
June 5, 201610 yr I don't reckon so. Tyson was incredible and just smashed fuck out of people. I used to love watching Tyson George Foreman was the same as Tyson but bigger stronger and wanted to kill his opponents just like Tyson did he beat Ali up badly but that was Ali's plan he tired him out as he couldnt match Foremans power, think Ali would have out thought Tyson got into his head and woul have beat him easily.
June 5, 201610 yr I'm sure I read an interview with Tyson where he said he thought Ali would have mullered him in his pomp.
June 5, 201610 yr Joe Fraizer doesn't think like that- link The crying off from vietnam i can see, the racist rhetoric on Micheal Parkinson yeah ok , fuckin' over Smoking Joe . Nah.
June 5, 201610 yr Each to there own, no doubt a great boxer and a bit of character, but not exactly "a favourite". One of my favourites. Totally transformed boxing.
June 6, 201610 yr Must be between Ali and Pele Everybody, including those weirdos who don't like sport has heard of them two Michael Jordan or OJ Simpson must run em close
June 6, 201610 yr Michael Jordan or OJ Simpson must run em close reckon most people, oustide the US, who've heard of OJ Simpson probably don't even know he was a sportsman
June 6, 201610 yr One of my favourites. Totally transformed boxing. No doubt, but not a great boxing fan myself. Moreover, whilst I can admire some of his non boxing activities others aren't.
June 9, 201610 yr (this one is for Ani). Paul Nihill, Britain's greatest all distance walker of all time (Olympic silver at 50k in Tokyo, only defeat in 1967 to 1870 was Mexico Olympics, where he collapsed at 44k) was hammering down the A23 at about 8mph when Ali's limo sped past. Noticing him, Ali got the driver to loop round and then slow to his pace, so that Ali could converse with him (a man he had never met) through the open window, because he realised he must be talented. As it happened Nihill had begun sport as a boxer, so he regarded that as a highpoint of his career.

That is not fucking sport. Although there is nothing more amusing than when one of the contestants gets disqualified for having both feet of the floor when he's already done about 40KM - serves them right for doing such a ridiculous event. I do wonder, and I fear Malcolm may have an answer, how does one get into "walking" as an athletic event - are they just shit runners, or do they actually start off with the aim of being a walker Edited June 9, 201610 yr by Sweep

But Nihill did finish in the upper half of the field in the National Cross-Country Championships in the good old days when each club was limited to 9 runners (nowadays it is open to all, despite the problems which result).
June 9, 201610 yr Fucking hell, Imaging being the world "walking like you are about to shit yourself and getting to the bog as quick as you can" champion.

Dead.
