Have We Got A Roofers On Here?

Or people who know something about it?

My next door neighbour is a sweet old woman (droopy - unable to accurately assess) and while we were away last week had some work done on her house. Gutter resealed in 4 places where it was leaking. While this guy was up there he told her her chimney needed repointing so she agreed that he should do that as well.

Charged her £280 - but the whole job took 90 minutes which seems like too short a time for me. She also said she didn't hear any drilling or equipment being used to knock out the existing cement. Added to that her gutter is still leaking.

Basically - does this sound like she's being ripped off? Or is 90 minutes enough for that kind of job? Chimney is on a 2 up 2 down terrace house in Halliwell so not massive or ornate.

Thanks in advance but I know nothing about this kind of thing.....

I can see Traf's logic on pricing to be honest, as due to HSE shite nowadays, a wraparound scaffold should be used on repoints of chimney stacks, but seldom do they get used privately and away from the main road.

I live on a main road and the house is made of stone, so I'm in the right ballpark re: prices.

Even the guy who came to reseal my gutters used a cherry picker.

As I said C, on the main road will see more folk using scaffolds etc.

Quite bizarre though using a cherry picker for purely sealing gutters though pal.

Are roofers treated like royalty up your way or do they not know better haha ?

I rarely use cherry pickers though I was on one last week when it pissed down all day on Wednesday. 26metres up and sulking like fuck.

26 metres. Kinell I'd have been shaking like a shitting dog at that height. You have my admiration.

Safe as houses that height up R, but get me on Terra Firma and I'm clumsier than Dave Sutton.

You need to remember when Miami is 26 metres up his head is about 8 inches lower than most fully grown men he is so short.

Quicker and cheaper than scaffolding.

Had a bad fall today opposite Ste McNulty's, fucking fire brigade had to come out and get me down.

Even made the BEN.

Damaged chest, abdomen and spleen. Been on the old morphine but still in excruciating pain.

Time to quit I think.
