Isn't the driving force behind this a half-crazed by looming middle age councillor with a penchant for lycra longing for somewhere to whizz around on his snazzy carbon fibre bike?

 

I dunno about this, I agree it's a quagmire and not much use for owt, but I also think it's iffy using public money for a facility that's both niche and will cost an admission charge to use, it's unlike say the skatepark in town (free) or The Jason Kenny Centre (not niche)...

 

The cycle paths could do with improvement, especially where they're interrupted by built up areas - there's hardly any markings or signage to pick up the route, I've a half-decent nose for direction yet have found this a problem more than once.

 

If anyone finds those route maps useful they're a better person than me, favvers a six year old has been let loose with the felt tips.

Last bits true, this will be pay to ride, there's plenty of track down there to ride for free, just not round in laps etc.

There's plenty of derelict space that could do with something like this elsewhere, even in the locality there's the old st osmunds site, but that probably involves too much cost. Not sure why it says former football pitches either, they are still football pitches.

Yeh, just meant do something with that site and put a cycle track in it rather than on the football pitches as an example of putting it somewhere where it would improve the area rather than somewhere it will have a negative effect.

Blonde woman clasping her hands on the front row during the vote. She didn't raise her hand. Can't be certain about this but it looks like the same woman who was on the top desk at the public meeting that councilor John Bryne (wanker) held. At that meeting she came over as surly and acted like everyone in the room was plebs. Bryne came straight out and said he thought it was a good plan. She was asked which way would she vote? She said that under the law she can not say because of her position on the planning panel. She got a lot of stick from the floor because the impression she gave was that she was for the plan. Turns out she wasn't.

Now, I've no strong feelings either way on this, I like that park as it is, but the cycle track may improve it.

Apparently, they are both Farnworth councillors . The woman asked for a deferment while other areas where looked at. One of those areas was Harper Green, where people actually wanted it. The general consensus on their actions is, it was already decided this was happening, they had hoped the vote would go through anyway so that at least they could say to the farnworth people, " well we tried" , but, on counting the raised hands,realised there wasn't enough so had to vote for it, then, even though she asked for a deferment as she wasn't sure about the location, she followed suit and voted for.

 

That's not my opinion like, I don't know, but it does seem dodgy the way they do it. Thy could have also been day dreaming and realised what they were doing at the last minute I suppose.
