Restaurant Recommendations

I'm sure I've asked this before. Looking for somewhere on Saturday to take my Mrs as I was working on Valentine's day and we've got a rare night to ourselves.

Cherry Tree or Nick's would have been our choices but they're both full. Il Toro would have been our other but I've heard it's gone downhill.

Hopefully looking for somewhere with a bit of class where she can get her glad rags on - where we can have a drink before and after - and even better if it's got a few places to drink nearby.

Any suggestions from the WW dining club?

P.S. Not Heathcoates :-)

Might have covered up the restaurant name on the menu. And who knows how many places sell a product called a Big Mac?!

Great North Pie Co in Manchester last weekend was very good. Lamb and pea suet pudding with mash, peas and roast onion gravy. Washed down with a bottle of Bluebird Bitter.

Now, that's proper food.

Tonge Thai

Bloody awful!

This was one of their starters for a fiver. There was about 2 tablespoons of pork in it.

Very average mains too - and hideously expensive .

Jajern or Thai Kitchen remain the only decent Thai options in town! 👍

Show us your dinner, T 😉

Just booked in for Wheeler's Oyster Bar for the other half's birthday.

If you are ever down that way, and like seafood, it's a must.

Was going to go for lunch but waiting for a delivery so probably won’t now. Been a few times. It’s good.

Really nice

Speaking of defunct restaurants, we used to go to a place on Rue Lepic, Autour Du Midi, for really nice food, then downstairs to the cellar for jazz. Absolutely perfect.

Closed now.

King St Kitchen in Whalley, worth a visit, lovely little bistro.

Sounds like somewhere catering for homeless.

Met a woman on top of Mount Maunganui in New Zealand and asked her to take a photo. Turns out she was from Whalley. Told her we went there a couple of times last year. She recommended that place also. Is that the most distant recommendation ever?

Got to be up there! Small world.

Just had a serviceable lunch at the 19th, Bolton Muni. I’m sure Graham Kelly was there.

Don’t think so. I’m sure Rudy, whilst he was working as an astronaut, was wandering around on Mars and a Martian told him to try Toby Inn.

They’ve made a good job of the refurb. They’re in a great spot there if they can pinch some of the Fannie’s/Retreat crowd

Time was that Fannie’s was a mix of well off chaps who could afford a Maserati but not quite reach ferrari money, along with bored housewives and nip-and-tucked dolly birds willing to do bum stuff in exchange for a sugar daddy.

Now it’s full of the offspring of these types and can be absolutely dreadful.

that said, so long as they’re allowed their cocaine and the landlord keeps prices high and riff raff out, it’s fair enough,

Looking forward to summer for a quiet pint in the evening sun. Or afternoon.
