March 9, 20179 yr Mrs Manc booked some Monarch flights that popped up on her email on a really good deal for 4 days in May Need to book a hotel now. Any recommendations?
March 10, 20179 yr I find Venice vastly over-rated, sure go once but I'm in no rush to return. It's scruffy around the main sites and that's just the Japs with their stupid dentist masks on. A shopping centre surrounded by water with the odd church - a crumbling Amsterdam without the whores. I wouldn't bother looking for a top notch hotel, the whole idea of being there I suppose is to site see so you only want somewhere clean. Plenty around but I agree, expensive.
March 10, 20179 yr I'm suffering yet another bad A.I.D.s cold undoubtedly caught from some 'I'll go and sweat it out' inconsiderate c*nt who was sneezing, wheezing and noseblowing on the treadmill adjacent at'gym the other day... Anyhow, I once read the surgical masks some Japanese wear are done so when they've got a cold and want to crack on without passing it on, thoughtful if nowt else imo... Unlike Typhoid Timothy t'other day, probably given his lurgy to about forty people in the gym alone that evening - arsehole. Never been to Venice. A Venetian once told me to steer clear, so I have. March 10, 20179 yr I'm veering towards thinking balls to him and going anyway at some point, but being (fairly) newly single, it's not that high up on the list at the moment...Crywanking (hand in the pocket of course) and eating a cornetto whilst being punted alone in a gondola doesn't really appeal. March 10, 20179 yr We went to Venice for 4 nights last July and we had a brilliant time. Venice should be on everybody's bucket list. We stayed at a cracking little hotel(reasonable for Venice) which is right on the Grand Canal and the San Silvestro vaporetto stop is right outside the hotel, the Rialto bridge is just a few minutes walk away. http://www.caangeli.it/en/index.html
March 10, 20179 yr Not many hotels as such, loads of B&B's mind. That's due to the buildings and architecture, most are small and pokey as they are built on water. We looked and many were small with shared bathrooms, fuck that! We stayed at the Hilton Molino Stucky, fantastic hotel recently built in an old pasta factory, big rooms with barrel ceilings, great Soa etc. It's only a short water taxi (Hilton have a free one every 15 mins) from the centre of Venice We were worried that it wasn't bang in the mixer but it was fine with the water taxi's on offer, highly recommend the hotel
March 10, 20179 yr We stayed at the Pesaro Palace just before Christmas. On the Grand Canal & by a vaporetto stop. https://en.tripadvisor.com.hk/Hotel_Review-g1725258-d2056968-Reviews-Hotel_Pesaro_Palace-City_of_Venice_Veneto.html Would advise a vaporetto pass that covers the entire stay because it definitely saves you money.
March 10, 20179 yr Inexpensive lunch? http://www.palazzofranchetti.it/en/the_rooms_sala_cafeteria.php
March 10, 20179 yr Never been but was told it fuckin stinks in the warm weather. Long time ago though- has it improved?
March 10, 20179 yr Youri, Was out with a lad from Japan last night and he said they only wear the masks so not to pass on what ever they have very considerate. As for Venice we found it great if you ignore the hoards, we stopped at the Great Western on the mainland and just one stop on the local rattler, good value.
March 10, 20179 yr Author Well........thanks to those who have basically told me that Mrs M has dropped a right shitter by deciding to go to Venice I've passed your comments on and her reply is unpublishable even by WWays standards Thanks to those who have suggested hotels. Will look at them all and pass them on. It's her gig. I take no responsibility. She wanted to go. I wasn't arsed but happy to tick it off as another city visited In terms of prices, yeah it will be expensive but I'm not a student on a hostel holiday. I go somewhere I expect to pay local prices. If I live expecting to pay the prices of a takeaway in Daubhill I'd never go and eat out in Manc. Sure I'll find decent places with decent prices as I did in Copenhagen the other month The variety of opinions on WWays is why I love this place!!!!
March 10, 20179 yr You can find plenty of decent places to eat that are reasonable, you may just have to spend longer Cross checking on line with the likes of trip advisor etc so that your not disappointed
March 11, 20179 yr Make sure you visit the Doge's Palace, it really is a must! Half of the posters off here should be banged up in that place. As for food, we found Venice much better than Rome, there is a cracking restaurant called Cantina Do Spade. Oh and do make sure you go on a Gondola, it cost about £80 but it was worth the money watching my Mrs shitting herself like we were going to capsize or something. https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g187870-d1034679-Reviews-Cantina_Do_Spade-Venice_Veneto.html https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attraction_Review-g187870-d194251-Reviews-Doges_Palace-Venice_Veneto.html Edited March 11, 20179 yr by Blondi
March 11, 20179 yr Il Paradiso Perduto Is a good place to eat as well. Take a look around the Jewish ghetto.
March 11, 20179 yr If you believed WWays for reviews of places to go, you'd book your holidays to Horwich every year.
March 11, 20179 yr Stayed here last time we went - nice hotel a couple of minutes walk from St Marks Square. If you want a great meal (but not cheap ) try The Antico Marini
