I was well aware of the smallish benefit to our GDP,  thankfully we do not have to sell our soul to do the deal, that was the case with the EU, and one of the reason I voted to leave, we will deal with the 4% drop in GDP, the country will rebalance and move forward and I believe ultimately be a better country for leaving the EU.

This 4% drop is a forecast by the OBR. The OBR are not very good at forecasts.

Some will have to be sent there, politically they’ll take a battering from Labour if they don’t.

none will be going to Rwanda before the next GE, the courts, will see to that I'd have thought

They aren't as we know, I would have thought the hit would be a bit more than 4% in the short term, let's hope they're not too far out this time, like they usually are.

Who knows but young people in Scotland want to take back control and it will happen

I don't think a drop of only 4% would overly upset people, it's not ideal, but it could be worse. As Boby says, the OBR are usually  not very good at forecasts, so it could be a whole lot worse. I think that's what he was getting at anyway 😉

It could go either way. I hope it’s less obviously. Just don’t see why people quote other people quoting something that is basically hypothetical. 🤷‍♂️

agreed, it'll be what it is, we've left already, so we just have to deal with it.

If it does drop short term, those who told us it wouldn't, and said that we'd see an immediate uplift (David Davis etc), should be held to account, not that they'll really care I wouldn't have thought. However, if it doesn't drop short term, and actually improves, those who said it would drop should also be lambasted for causing unrest/panic unduly.

Our economy has always gone "up and down" and always will - we make next to fuck all here, and probably never will again, so we'll never truly be masters of our own destiny.

Thoughts? 😊

Wonder what the OBR would have predicted?

Their prediction of UK borrowing (21/22 iirc) was around 234bn.

We borrowed 120bn apparently.

Now, more recently, they've predicted better news on the inflation front by the end of the year- around 2.9% I think it was, which is quite a bit lower than the approx 5% many others were saying.

Hope they're right obviously, but I won't hold my breath.

As much as Kamikwasi may have gone headlong a few months ago, you can perhaps understand his apparent reticence about using obr forecasts.

Good news for some, not for others, as ever with interest rates.

Now…when will it peak/will it continue to appreciate? I need to buy some dollars for June.

Not really. Some like to post bad news, I like to post good news. If it is good. You decide.

Does that mean those moaning when it fell were also clutching at straws?

If it's bad when it falls then it must be good when it goes up then!

If it's good when it falls it must be bad when it rises.

Purely depends upon an individuals perspective and what is important to them at the time.

Aye, maybe, although folks cleverer than me will be able to work out if one or the other is intrinsically a good think for the economy or not.

What was it 2 years ago, 3 years ago etc. He stated the situation this year, now. That’s all that matters isn’t it? You may have missed his point.

Only as far as it becomes a negative. Glass half empty folk… they can’t be helped.

So now we're not allowed to compare things to how they were a year ago? The mask has slipped.

Let's pick whatever dates suit you.

Anything to polish the turd that is the performance of the Government. I know neither of you support the Tories.
