Goes back to the 'who' said rather than 'what' said.

The biggest problem in politics nowadays. It's absolutely 100% acceptable to agree with somebody on one topic - even if you disagree with them on absolutely everything else.

In essence I think he is. There needs to be less fucking about at uni and more drive for industry and apprenticeships.

So if your kid/s wanted to go to Uni to study a subject they're passionate about like History or English Literature or Music, you'd put them off? Farage's ideology is that these subjects should only be available to those who can afford it, and the rest should be out labouring.

Wish I’d ended up in a trade. £3 an hour leaving school was too much for me to turn down though😂

He’s not saying that is he?

plenty like to do fuck all and twaddle about. Absolutely should be pushed towards trades. I don’t see it as a downgrade in the slightest.

You should only go to university if a career will come of it.

Like I said the answer is somewhere in between. He's at the extreme side as he's an extreme kind of guy.

The fact you describe anything that isn't university based as labouring says it all, and that kind of view point is probably why most trade courses are littered with scallywags with nowhere else to turn.

Don't you work for BAE? I thought you be supportive of kids chosing that kind of career path?

And those said scallywags can earn a lot more than many uni Graduate's whilst not lumbering themselves in 10s of thousands of debt.

I went to uni studying Geography and History. Didn't have a career in mind but they were my strongest subjects at A-level and found a uni that did a combined course

Then as part of the geography course did a module that I now work in. Had to do a Masters later to get there but it worked out for me even though at the start I didn't know what I wanted to be

There's also a place for apprentices so as long as they are available let the person decide which path they want to take

Good stuff. You used your degree for your career.

Not everything has to be applicable to everyone though. It’s not state sponsored madness anyone that a suggesting.

Does it seem a bit namby pamby to be offended at pushing trades on kids. They’ll be loads of examples of kids who were helped into it and it’s worked really well too.

The thing about the Uni debate is that for older folk like me there is nothing I would rather have done 40 years ago than go to Uni and have best time of my life. Left with relatively low debt , just bank overdraft and a degree, at the time it was about 5 % of people going Uni so it was a help getting jobs.
Have posted before that Yoof did an Apprenticeship at 18, now nearly 26, he has proffesional qualifications, a first class honours degree, good salary and no debt. His mate who did Uni are generally on less money , lower qualifications and massive debt.

There are IMO too many people going to Uni for the sake of it, but the idea we should just abandon the Social Sciences is fucking nonsense. The point of these courses as well providing loads of teachers is teaching students to critically analyse info about the past and how it affects today and into the future. The more creative stuff tells its own story but the number of people employed in related industries.

Apprenticeships are not just for trades btw but they can be the best way into some industries for some kids,  equally for some a more academic Uni type setting is best.

But having more qualified tradesmen might help us build the 000s of houses we need.

So you don't think he's 'right' then. You think he's an extremist.

I'm supportive of kids doing whatever the fuck they want, rather than pricing them out of (or forcing them down) a particular road based on my personal beliefs.

They can do “whatever the fuck they want”

They can now, yes. As it should be. Do you think Farage is saying "things should stay as they are"?

I’d like to see where he says that they can’t do whatever they want as he clearly doesn’t say that in the clip. Is there another clip doing the rounds that you’ve seen?

I did Music and Drama - own a business doing marketing and media in live arts. Wouldn't have had that opportunity if I hadn't done that course and taken Arts Administration as a two year elective.

Hes clearly not said people can’t do what they want. There’s even subtitles on the clip. Obviously as per usual, you’ve jumped to your own conclusion.

I've been away for a few weeks, are you and Cheese arguing about the same shit as when I went away or is this another load of shit? 😉

He's quite clearly insinuating that we need to change the way our University's work so young people who want to study subjects that he doesn't consider worthy are priced out. If that's not what he means, what do you think he means?

he's saying free tuition for "proper" degrees

and I guess fees remain in place for the others, but not an increase

it's daft and wouldn't work

but he's not on about pricing folk out

But culture and arts could be one of our stronger industries and one of our bigger exports. So why wouldn’t someone be able to have a career in it?

ok

so what you're saying is

this war, invasion, the killing of those innocent Ukrainians, happened because Putin was provoked into doing so?

Now you seem to be going beyond altering peoples posts to putting words into their mouths.

Do I have to repeat it?

"Just pointing out Putins 'rationale', 'excuse' whatever you want to call it".

Britain has one of the finest, if not THE finest, backgrounds in entertainment, drama and music.

To sneer at the arts as a fundamental choice in higher education is fucking demented.

We are rightly proud of the rich and diverse styles of entertainment we have produced.

Apart from ska.

So here's a thought, why can't we have a massive choice of degrees that gives everyone a chance to be good at something? Rather than force them into being a mechanic simply because they never really took to English?

Also, the universities in this country prop up a HUGE amount of small businesses.

Leave it be. We should be growing our options not limiting them.

Do you genuinely think that there is a ‘tide of islamification’? To me it feels the same it always has. I don’t feel like much has changed. But I’m fascinated in what this comprises or what people feel on it?

I'd love to know what fucking planet you live on?

Did you miss the streets of London recently? Have you seen what is happening all around Europe?

Do you think Christian ghettoes, no go zones and 'Christian fundamentalist' law areas would be tolerated in the Middle East?
