Yeah but instead of EU workers they are coming from elsewhere. In record numbers. And employers take them because they don’t want Shanise or 55 year old Dave who is waiting for a knee op. They want cheap, young healthy Nigerian workers.

Labour have some of the answer here in reducing migration, boosting skills training and linking up and incentivising employers to take from job centres.

But there is still the issue, and I see this every day, that even for minimum wage bottom barrel jobs, employers are picky. They are put off by people who have been out of work. And the jobs market is such that they are able to be picky. 

The other fact is a lot of unemployed are not claiming benefits but are in their 50’s and post covid chose not to go back to work because they simply didn’t have to. Might do a bit of consultancy or whatever to tide them over but they don’t need to work. It’s terrible for the economy however because it lowers productivity. But you can’t force them into work.

Posters and signs are a big part of any campaign, be it political or advertising. As I said, it must work to some extent, or they wouldn't bother. Maybe they should start selling daft hats with meaningless slogans on as well?
