Market performance is good for our pension pots. For those who are putting into them…

Yep. Read that this morning. I’ve mentioned before how many people don’t contribute to a private pension.
We really do need to reform the pension scheme in line with other countries.
Not sure what the percentage of investment in the UK by pension schemes is though. I thought that was something Reeves was looking at.
Ill have a look.

Not a particularly easy sell that at the moment though.

Pressure on business, particularly small ones just going up.

100% agreed we need reform. The state pension is a ticking time bomb. Totally unsustainable long term with the aging population.

When the auto enrolment scheme came into force years ago, I’d assumed there wouldn’t be a state pension when I retire and I’ve been saving accordingly. But reading the article, I don’t see how the majority would cope without significant state support.

The issue is that no government wants to be the “baddy” that does something about it. Kicking the can.

A quick check and it seems only around 18% of UK pension assets are in UK listed entities. As I said earlier Reeves is looking to change things with the Pension Schemes Bill.

The triple lock will have to go. It was ok for years when we had low inflation and low wage growth. A modest 2.5% rise seemed reasonable on what was a relatively low pension. It was unheard of that it would be one day taxed.
The other thing is pension credit. If you don’t have enough qualifying years of NI contributions, you get pension credit to top it up. So everyone gets something, even those who have contributed nothing at all.

The amount of people I know without a private pension, or with such a tiny amount, it may as well be fuck all if frightening. There are going to be some skint old duffers around in 10/120/30 years I suspect

Well yes. Different circumstances to 2022 of course. All down to Trump.

‘The prospect of higher military spending has pushed up shares in the defence contractor Babcock by 115% this year, with BAE Systems up 65%’

All down to Trump.

Just read the article 🤷‍♂️

When the inevitable drop comes that won’t have anything to do with anyone but Labour, of course 🙃

Your bias is becoming slightly hysterical.

Same. Talking to someone the other week who’s around 60 and has a couple grand in a pension from years ago. Thinks he’ll be OK as he’ll inherit part of his parents’ estate* when they pass away

I replied to you with an explanation from a reputable source.

I’ve read it

All I’m seeing is the UK being a solid place for investors, even when the American president decides to be an unpredictable spaz.

In other words, Labour will look after your investments.

Its all about interpretation.

Nearly every major news outlet uses X, the person speaking in the video is Keir Starmer, the U.K. PM. He’s lying, again, about housing.

But Fare dodging.
