Yep, a pub called the Londonborough (I think) was where we spent several hours, it was cracking. The atmosphere seemed to get moodier as the day went on though.

I must try and get back down there again soon

I see Reform are refusing to cut council tax in areas they control.

All they seem to have done so far is change some flags.

Tricky, this politics lark isnt it?

Stokey is a proper mix of folk. No different to most areas. Been gentrified in parts & locals priced out. Plenty good pubs, parks & places to eat.

A month is a long time in politics.

Ask Zia Yusuf.

Rachel Reeves raised employers National Insurance. Since then UK payroll employment has gone.
April -23,000
May -25,000
June -41,000

89,000 jobs lost in 3 months. 178,000 since Labour came to power. Anyway, these flags….

They get 5 years.

Lots of damage to undo.

I look around and see no devastation.

I imagine you’re doing ok.

The jobs market has always fluctuated, and substantial change takes time.

As reform are now finding out.

But, even I will concede that they got the important issues dealt with as a priority and some town halls won’t be having an Ugandan flags waving atop their clocks. 👍

The trend has been going down since 2022 - but it has been exacerbated by the NI increases.

Biggest losers have been in food services, admin and retail. Biggest increases have been in healthcare and education.

and barbers!

It was scary how many people came out of Covid and thought they could make a living out of high end coffee and bakery shops. Always the first thing to go in a downturn

To hold the same constituency for nigh on 40 years is an incredible achievement, no matter what you think of her. I'm not sure "being fortunate" is a fair thing to say.

For what it's worth, I'm no fan of hers, but I have no idea what she does day to day for her constituents, she must be doing something, and doing it reasonably well

It won't involve counting.

Had quite a few calls from construction players I haven't heard from for years recently... "just catching up mate" usually translates to looking for work... I'm the quietest I've been for yonks.

Construction down turning?

I know the difference. I follow it daily. Very little difference over a year. The current month goes against those who think our economy has tanked  though.

Here’s the FTSE for the last month.

I know you follow it daily so hopefully this news may give you a spring in your step amongst the constant gloom you seem to wallow in.

Have a lovely day.
