gonzo Posted September 4, 2025 Posted September 4, 2025 The migrant/boat stuff is a massive issue in terms of votes and the general public. But if reform get in they've got problems to sort that are not even in the same stratosphere as that issue, despite it being headline/vote winning news. The economy isn't far off imploding. The bond markets are ticking bomb Quote

We need that now. Blair and Brown were responsible for creating the current overblown "presidential" style of government after they witnessed Clinton's campaign in the US... they tried it over here and it stuck hence Downing Street becoming like the White House. As I have stated, Westminster needs a hefty cut back... "drain the swamp" Quote

Or, to put it another way, he's happy with free speech, as long as it's what he wants to hear. As @gonzo says above, the current "big thing" is migrant/boat related, there is no doubt about that, if there was a GE tomorrow, I don't doubt Reform would become the largest party. They're a one policy party (and let's be honest, they're pretty much a one person party) - at the minute, but they don't need any other policies. In the same way that for the last few years that all Labour had to do, was not be the Conservatives. Nobody cared what Labours manifesto was, they just wanted rid of The Conservative Party, and whilst things aren't going as well as we might like, I think most are happy that set of absolute cunts got their arses handed to them in the way they did.. Anyway, if, and I don't think they will, the Labour Party can get to grips with these boats and the housing/return of illegal immigrants, then Reform will have to find something else to talk about, and they'll slowly become less relevant. As things stand, everything is playing right into the hands of Farage, which will get him sweating soon, as no way does he really want the top job, as he may have to do some real work. Quote

Trump or Starmer - Trump clearly has Although, if you go back through this thread, you'll see that we have to judge Starmer today, but we should only judge Trump at the end of his term. It is odd, how they both get different timescales. I do actually think that Starmer is struggling, he's just not got the "oomph" required. I'd also be surprised if Starmer sees the full term, especially if things don't improve over the next 12-18 months, then we could see a GE earlier than expected. I look forward to seeing how RR will deliver this budget in November - she won't, I believe, directly make any changes to income tax of employee NI, but she's definitely going to tax the common man, albeit indirectly. That's what happens when you rely on economic growth, which was never really going to happen as a result of Brexit (amongst other things) Quote

The person he voted for. I suppose you also have to look at who, of the two of them, inherited the bigger shit show and mess to sort out. Also, rightly or wrongly, anything Trump does will have an immediate impact on the global scale, as he's leader of one of the two most powerful nations on Earth. Starmer is leader of a bit part player on the periphery of Europe. As I've said before, I have my own mind, and as such don't feel obliged to support and stick with any single party, no matter what (unlike some). Usually, I'd lean more the way of the Conservative party, but they needed to go, and Labour was the only choice. Are they better or worse? - who knows, we'll see at the end of their term. I don't trust either of them, and distrust Reform even more. British politics is absolutely fucked at the minute, the biggest tell on this, is the fact that people are actually talking about Farage being the leader of the country in a few years time, I don't think it'll actually happen, but the fact it's being spoken about shows how fucked we really are. Cheese Posted September 4, 2025 Posted September 4, 2025 Donald Trump is a paedophile. There is no other explanation for him threatening Republican Representatives who continue to push for the Epstein files to be released - especially when one of his campaign promises was to release them. Knowing that, I can only conclude that those who support him are either paedophile apologists, or paedos themselves. Quote
