Will this really turn the needle as far as the public is concerned? Does Jenrick have a public following like Farage, Corbyn, Boris, etc?

absolutely not, but if he does go to Reform, as I say, it's an actual prominent, "senior" MP that's moved across (neither Dorries and Zahawi, are currently MPs.......and Anderson is just a massive cunt)

Reform is and probably always will be, a one man, one policy party as far as the electorate is concerned, but they'll need more than just a figurehead like Farage if they want to run the country

On what planet did he think digital ID and his reason (stop illegal workers) for introducing it would be a success for the party / country?

Nor farmers, old folk etc...

Probably because it would make the raids like we were talking about yesterday (and all agreed needed to be stepped up) much, much easier.

Hi Mr Turkish Barber - can I see your digital ID please?

Sorry, I don't have one.

Off you pop then!

It doesn't though.

It is currently illegal for them to work, employers know this yet still do it.

They know the chances of being found are fairly slim, so employ them anyway.

We're seeing some increase in arresting folk now, which will be a genuine deterrent.

Having a card, rather than some other official documentation, won't cut the mustard if there is ineffective enforcement.

Interestingly, this increase in arrests just reported- 17000+, has yielded just 7% deportations.

The rest are still here, and effectively free to work again, or in clink.

Hardly a winner for the country.

I've just had a look......

The fine for knowingly employing an illegal immigrant is currently a maximum of £45K for a first offence, that can rise to £60K (per illegal worker) for repeat offenders. That's ridiculous, no wonder some are happy to take the risk. We need to come down harder on those who are employing them. I know it'll never happen, but maybe £100K fine and 5 years suspended sentence for a first offence, and then jail time if caught again. Still probably wouldn't stop them though.

Sadly, part of the issue is that the public like cheap carwashes, quick drugs delivery and cheap food, so they continue to feed the problem

It's a step in the right direction and continues the upward trend. Which I think is a positive.

The existing legislation would have needed to change to fit alongside the new ID card scheme and was probably in the bill.

I think a better resourced enforcement service running alongside the ID scheme would have complimented each other really well.

Alternatively - just pump all the money into enforcement.

Labour reckoned between £140 and £400 million to launch depending on the exact final version of the scheme - and £10 million a year to administer.

And to be fair - that's not going to buy you a fat lot of new offivers. Given that the enforcement budget is £482,000,000 per year (finance figures from AI so not my fault if they're wrong. Full disclosure and all that) 😁

I suppose it depends on what you think is likely to have the most impact.

And there's other benefits to the ID card too. Especially for employers.

Robert Jenrick is currently stood at a Reform lectern telling everyone how shit he’s been for the last 14 years.

What a weird thing to do.

I guess Nigel no longer believes this then......

MP’s shouldn’t be allowed to change party and stay as MP without a by election.

That applies to all parties.

People vote for the candidate based on the party they represent.

Our politics is great, but things like this are fucked up.

I agree with that, if you're voted in on a party ticket, and you leave that party, then it should be a by-election

Jenrick, is happy to chuck the Tory party under the bus here isn't he.

He's also wearing far too much eye-liner as well

An absolute fucking chancer who has found his true home.

Quite touching really.

The twat

It’s coming to something when I’m starting to feel a bit sorry for the Tory party

I get why Reform need to add political experience for if/when they get elected. Just not sure the rogues gallery below will make more or less people vote for them. Probably won’t make a difference to their supporter base. Farage alluded to a high profile Labour defector next week as well - will be interesting to see who that is.

Hes my local MP, I couldn't agree more.

It's weird, hes been in since about 2014 but it appears no-one likes him all that much!

Yep, agree entirely.

This was very much an idea shared by Christian Wakeford and James Daly, who wanted to make rule changes to that effect.

That is, until the former then defected to Labour, and didn't resign his seat.

And I'm almost certain had Nigel proposed it - people would have been delighted with the idea.

Fanciful stuff. We all know that Farage would never go down that path.

Agreed, everything on one document as it were, we already have NI numbers and passports and driving licences - why not combine them (ultimately it would reduce costs I'd have thought), and we could go further, as soon as your born, your DNA is swabbed, so you're on record. If you come and live in this country, legally, your DNA is swabbed

I do agree with @kent_whiteabove, if Farage put it in his manifesto, some of those people decrying it, would love it and say what a great idea it is

You are sharing the same spliff?

Am I correct?

She just jumped the gun before he pulled the pin.

I agree, it would be the first "decent " signing that Reform have made, Zahawi, Dorries and Anderson are just all wankers/chancers, Jenrick does have something about him, and could well be the person to lead Reform into the next GE, once Farage bails

:D Reputedly, God loves a trier.
