Googled it without success. What times and days is the M60 closed around the Bolton-Trafford Centre area in the coming weeks?

not surprised , there isn't anyone working.

if more than 3 blokes stood together ,all they do is look into a hole.

I do that route a few times a week like plenty of people on here

 

I can confirm that I've never seen more than half a dozen blokes working on it at any one time.

 

In fact, I can't see that a single gantry, lane marker, bollard or fart has appeared in the last 12 months

I see our "upgrade" to smart motorway has been extended until Summer 2018

Seem to remember the first part of the M62 around Leeds took ages

 

Then the section of the M1 when you join it from the M18 heading south took longer

 

This might just hold the record

My mate's a spark and his mate who went through college with him is working on the cabling for the gantries and the lighting. Apparently the stretch between Worsley church and Barton Bridge is one massive clusterfuck. The motorway was built on Barton Moss so the whole area is a bog. Underneath the motorway is another motorway of sewers and piping. He said you simply cannot lay a cable in a straight line. Also every time it rains the whole area floods beneath ground level as the water flows down the hill from the M61 feeder lane. He's working nights because they can't work during the day due to the need to close lanes and they can't do it during the day due to the volume of traffic. So the work is dragging on

 

Not making excuses like but was interesting from his point of view. Suppose questions need asking of the surveyors when the contractors put in their bid with the agreed timelines?

It took them 40 years to build the M60 and congestion was being talked about at its completion which was 17 years ago.

Get the logic, and as someone who's often stood with only cones separating from lunatic drivers I'd love no wagons, but, the fact is, most bumps, prangs and crucially breakdowns that happen in the works that cause delays are caused by cars.

That said, wagons and their drivers are a fucking menace anywhere too, to others and themselves

I ended up travelling from the M6 toll through Lichfield on A and B roads. I crawled most of the way home but on the odd occasion where I could pick up some speed on the country lanes the HGVs were cornering bends at crazy speeds. There are some mad drivers around

I actually find the 50mph limit helps it to flow quicker than the 70 mph limit. I feel too many drivers hesitate and are less aware of their immediate surroundings at 70 and are more spatially aware at 50.

Micky, studies have shown this to be the case, when the number of vehicles reaches a level, slowing them down, improves flow. Similar apparently to fluid flow, can become turbulent when too much pressure is applied or somert.
