October 29, 20178 yr This thread makes me love living in London, the public transport system is ace, my commute to work is plesent and quick (thameslink trains and the Overground are cracking) When I come back home, the drive is great until I get past Birmingham, even the kids know the M6 is bad, they are 5, 7 and 11 and they live in Canterbury! I normally try and go through Stoke as at least it feels like we’re getting somewhere!
October 29, 20178 yr In an ideal world that is the perfect solution, however, the Mrs works works for a large logistics company and the problem has become the consumer You buy something online and choose next day delivery or delivery on a certain day and in this modern age you "expect" that to happen This means that logistics companies are shipping products from suppliers to transport hubs, on to regional delivery hubs, and then out to your house via white van man and because of your expectations they clog up the road during the day when ideally they would do it at night if you accepted that your purchase will arrive in a few days time I'm using "you" very generically here birch - I'm not blaming you personally for clogging up the roads I'd say a gazillion office jockeys all traveling to the same place of work alone is a major factor. Span across a traffic jam on the m6 in a morning and it's full of people sat on their own.
October 29, 20178 yr I thought the Crescent mods were Salford Council saying fuck off to Manchester? It was apparently one of the reasons given that they didnt want to be seen as the place the you travel through to get to manchester
November 9, 20178 yr Tonight was as bad as I’ve ever known it, and I’ve seen the north west in some shit states. Lorry drivers who crash and cause this kind of fucking mess should be stapled to a motorway bridge and sprayed with sewage full of glass shards
November 9, 20178 yr They should widen every motorway to 6 lines a side and have two just for lorries and nothing else and a little barrier in between them and normal traffic.

Lorry drivers who crash and cause this kind of fucking mess should be stapled to a motorway bridge and sprayed with sewage full of glass shards I got off at 16 and did Sandbach, Middlewich, Northwich, A556, Manchester, home. Eventually. A556 is a cute road.
November 9, 20178 yr I was introduced to an app called Waze. It is as up-to-the-minute as it can be. Users update as they are travelling (passenger to update rather than driver) but if they see a broken down vehicle you tell your phone and it auto-updates all others on that route. It instantly gives you the best available route depending on what's going on ahead of you.

Waze is very good and runs in partnership with Spotify so you can listen to music whilst you're getting directions.
November 9, 20178 yr I’m going to end up in jail one day as I’m destined to kill someone at this rate

November 10, 20178 yr The traffic in Barbados is suprisingly bad at rush hour on these single track beach roads Joking aside, I saw some bits onFB yesterday from the motorway police and knew it would be bad I had a long spell of 4 hour runs back from London that made me a bit cocky. The past few months it’s been 5 hours minimum with two runs taking over 6.5 hours. Thing is it takes 2 hours to Stafford come rain or shine, the rest is that dog called the M6
November 10, 20178 yr I think Navmii does the same re: updates. Ban trucks & caravans from the motorways from 7am to 7pm. Discussions on the wireless recently; one Mon saying that internet shopping and quick deliveries, etc is pushing up the number of journeys and vehicles on the roads. If more folk were happy to do traditional collection at stores then many truck/van journeys wouldn't be needed.
November 10, 20178 yr congestion charges needed nowThere’ll need to be a proper public transport infrastructure first.
November 10, 20178 yr The one where the A580 comes down from M61 to East Lancs? Does anyone even know how you get on it? I assume it's for people driving East towards Manc who stop there and take that Guided Bus thing the rest of the way. But once they get back to car after work can they then get onto the West-bound carriageway?

November 23, 20178 yr It's gone on that long now I just consider it the norm Yes, but when it's eventually finished it'll be a smart motorway.
