August 17, 20179 yr I've a mate, a bit of a reverse snob at times, who always uses 'going travelling' (and variations using 'travel') when he goes on a jolly abroad - I always enjoy asking him "How was your holidays?" when he gets back - the more adventurous his jaunt the more I like to shoehorn in 'holiday' into the conversation and watch him bristle. Americanisms can fuck off, as Whites Man points out on another thread any Englishman fluent in yank jibber jabber should be ashamed of themselves. 'pissed' in place of 'pissed off' is one of the worst offences imo.
August 17, 20179 yr Fuck me life's coming to something when your criticising others for jibber jabber I also didn't think annual leave was a particularly strong Americanism. Vacation yes but annual leave not really I've called it annual leave for the past 20 years Edited August 17, 20179 yr by Escobarp
August 17, 20179 yr Nowt wrong with my jibber jabber. I guarantee they didn't use 'annual leave' in any pit, foundry or mill around here in the past therefore I deem it yank jibber jabber.
August 17, 20179 yr new clocking system that allows 15 mins to log on being trialled... that equates to an extra 8 flexi days a year cheers
August 17, 20179 yr I call it annual leave to customers/colleagues and holiday to my pals. Best of both worlds

August 17, 20179 yr day off work = holiday Yep!! Even worse one of my sales team sent an email to everyone the other day saying "Hi guys, just to let you know I'm on AL next week, can't wait, gonna have a great time" Now......"AL"....ffs it gets worse........"gonna"......just fuck off......... Would have hit "Reply All" saying hope that Al has a great time but after the boozing/shagging/HR shenanigans in the company recently thought best not
August 17, 20179 yr Surely it's only annual leave if you take the same time off each year And biannual if every 2?
August 17, 20179 yr a Grand were you going Butlins in Wales Could be an afternoon in Centre ParcsOh lah di dah, what's you two's type of spending? Fifty thousand pounds apiece for two weeks next to a gold swimming pool filled with champagne in Monte Carlo? Anyhow, I took it as Frank and his missus will miss out on a week or twos trading for that figure to be mentioned. Edited August 18, 20179 yr by Youri McAnespie
August 17, 20179 yr Annual leave = time off work other than rest day or day off in lieu or compassionate leave or maternity/paternity leave. Holiday= on your jollies somewhere that's how I've seen it for the last 30 years
