Hurricane Irma

185 mph winds. That's scary and awe inspiring at the same time. I remember as a lad trying to walk down Wigan Rd the year when we had our hurricane - winds must have been about 70 max and we were leaning straight into it - linking arms so we didn't blow over.

Just an update lots of flooding but Mrs and lad all safe, thanks for your messages fellas.

  • I heard JetBlue were putting extra planes on and charging just $99 for short-haul domestic flights, as a gesture of goodwill and excellent advertising/PR.

Latest track as it going between Miami and FT Lauderdale (moved slightly East) , speed down to 173 mph and gusts to 213 mph

Beats me why folk build houses out of wood in a known Hurricane hotspot.

Get some concrete foundations/bricks/mortar houses built and there might be more chance they'll still be standing when the storm passes.

I'm not sure what the answer to this is, I do know that it might be a bit bleaker out there if their houses were built with bricks and mortar at the minute, as this hurricane would be still be picking them up and chucking them about the place - a pile of bricks being slung around at over 150mph would be a sight to behold.

213mph gusts. That's completely incomprehensible.

I've seen the damage 60mph can do to the coastline here.

Absolutely bonkers.

I've read about airline hiking prices up for folk trying to get away. That's a disgrace.

When should it reach Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate?

The sooner the better

Absolutely disgraceful that. Should be evacuating folk for nowt. Dealing with lives here.

It's not the responsibility of the airlines

Should the yank military not be running the evacuation effort

I got the impression he meant the Caribbean islands.

Either way, its the responsibility of anyone and everyone who can help when dealing with stuff like this.

Tyldesley helped folk and other folk helped folk. Didn't turn round and say fuck that, its the job of the emergency services.

Alright it would cost the airlines a fair bit, but you'd hope intelligent and compassionate people would put that to one side, at least temporarily, to evacuate people and then maybe get some financial assistance from the government later.

Keep the prices the same at least ffs.

Hiking them is on a par with looting.

Wherever it's from.

Still can't see his hair moving even in that wind.

terrible stuff

stay safe my american bredrins

I'd not have my planes anywhere near200 mph winds

I guess their insurers feel the same

The wind speed in Miami and Orlando is currently 9mph and has been around that for the past 4 days.

if its 200mph y is it taking till sunday  to get up to Florida ???

The hurricane is swirling at that speed not going in straight lines

We have a cyclone season down here (in the north of WA). All houses have to be steel framed up there, by law.

Nothing like the severity our poor mates in the Dom Rep and Houston are seeing (or likely to see)mind but I am sure that steel construction would be a vast improvement.

Aye. And presumably they'll be moving the aircraft away before the storm comes. Quite easy to fill them before hand.

:good:

Just seen some footage

It's like that all the time down the side of the west stand up at the Macron

That's great. Love it when a business combines the two!

Little Whitt remember this storm is 400 miles wide, so Miami is going to start to see the outer bands while its 200 miles away, latest as of 4-00am its now a cat 4, 155 mph with gusts at 190 , the track now takes it west of Miami straight up through Florida

When you consider that Dortmund & Cologne are approximately 400 miles from Bolton or that Land's End to Berwick upon Tweed is similar, then you get a better feel of the enormity of it all.

And Traf lies the problem, people for some reason cant seem to comprehend A) the fucking size of these things and  B) the wind speed because they've never seen or felt either . Sometime last week the TV went back to Rockport ( this is where Harvey came ashore) to talk to dipshits that had stayed and every single one of them said, I didn't realize it was going to be that bad and I will not do that again, no shit Sherlock.

Do they build storm shelters into basements of houses- somewhere that will withstand the wind, if roofs and walls are going everywhere.
