Ok so the castle is a must see it’s actually quite interesting and good for photo opportunities as is the walk along the royal mile. Bottom of the royal mile is the Scottish parliament. Holyrood. Ghastly building but next to it is holyrood place and park where the queen resides on official business

If you like a walk then in the middle of holyrood Park ia Arthur’s seat If you can make it to the top the views are tremendous and it’s free unlike much else in Edinburgh.

Royal yacht Britannia is take it or leave it for me if I’m honest.

Edinburgh zoo is very good and may suit for the little one. Penguin parade is really good fun for all.

In terms of food and drink if you’re there at a weekend then book yourself in for a Sunday roast at the ox on broughton street. Superb. And straight over the road is the cask and barrel which has tremendous ale and great selection and all the sports on but a lovely atmosphere. No knobheads (if I’m not in)

Couple of other good pubs on that road as well the barony and the Conan Doyle at the top on York place.

Other good pubs are Jeremiah’s tap room on elm row again nice atmosphere and very central. Food is ok in there as well

Cafe royal is a must just off st Andrew square. Food in there is very very good pub food.

Avoid George street for anything other than shopping and if it’s a 6 nations wekeend avoid rose street. Otherwise rose street is good.

Tons more good places though

Anything else let me know or pm me and if you let me know what part of town you are staying in can probably make some more precise recommendations

Cheers

Camera obscura near the castle is very good .ive been to edingborugh a few times its fantastic. Not long enough two days

Love Edinburgh the zoo is fantastic if a bit of a hilly cunt.

La Locanda is a brilliant Italian coffee place halfway up Cockburn Street for a rest stop on the climb up to the Royal Mile.

Go to Edinburgh a lot with work and to see friends. My mates live in Stockbridge so to be honest we hang around there, the market on a Sunday is great as are the pubs and restaurants.

The national museum is great, free and a must with kids - as is a drink in the elephant cafe (JKRowling place) that’s all round the corner from each other.

Portobello is only a 15 bus ride from the centre and a great little place and a great beach walk for when the centre is a bit much. Lovely shops.

If you are in Edinburgh are you don’t go to Chop Chop you need you head feeling, best dim sum ever https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2017/feb/19/chop-chop-edinburgh-restaurant-review

For lunches Oink is good value https://www.oinkhogroast.co.uk or the bluebird cafe if you are central. But you have to try chips and sauce at the City restaurant just near the Festival theatre (again near the museum)

It’s a good city with kids, buses are frequent and cheap and the centre is small. I have to say I find it as expensive as London though and I’d stay away from the Zoo - but that’s because I bloody hate zoos!

Avoid the zoo if it’s pissing down.

Set aside at least 4 hours for the National Museum, she’ll love it in there and as mentioned it’s completely free.

Castle well worth the visit, especially if you can coincide with the 1 o’clock gun.

Tons of good restaurants around the Playhouse, Leith Walk and the top of Easter Road. Make sure you go to a chippy for a bag of chips with salt & sauce.

City centre is entirely within walking distance, but as mentioned buses are very frequent if you’re going to the yacht (buses towards Leith/Ocean Terminal) or zoo (buses towards Corstophine).

Don’t visit anywhere near as often as I used to, but still comfortably my favourite place in the UK.

Chippy sauce is rotten!! Each to their own.

Agree re Portobello for a walk as well. Ten min walk for me

No way, life changing stuff once I eventually nail the recipe. I don’t even like brown sauce ordinarily.

Your can buy huge bottles of the stuff up here mate. Get someone to bring it down for you!

God knows why

Chippy sauce, Buckfast and Irn Bru; no wonder there is something not right half of them.

Irn bru is superb. Rest of them I agree especially Bucky

Don’t forget the deep fried everything. Pizzas snickers pies the lot

I believe they’re all stocking up on Irn Bru due to the recipe changing ?

Deep fried haggis is a thing of wonder as well.

Yes 50% less sugar so everyone stockpiling pal.

If weather is good, train to North Queensferry, walk under Forth Rail Bridge and then walk back over road bridge, amazing views.

Why don’t they just buy sugar and stir it in, thick Scottish cunts.

Sugar is produced in veg- they're not going to buy that.

Was going to jump in on this but Escobarp and NIC have said it all.

I love the place - would move there tomorrow given half a chance

Love the bars and pubs in Edinburgh, the very rich mix with the very poor.

Just a poor man's Newcastle

Just a poor man's Newcastle

Whilst both are fantastic cities I prefer Edinburgh just about.

Possibly because a pissed up hen party slag hasn't tried forcing her way into our hotel room in Edinburgh at half 3 in the morning.
