English/British culture is a very mixed bag but I think for the former it isn't that bizarre or owd hat to refer to the traditional culture as Anglo Saxon (that itself is a mix of various tribes).

Only the toffs/blue bloods were Norman anyroad (and they were half Viking - who could be considered similar to Anglo Saxons i.e Beowulf  . . . some would even say all of them were Celtic as in the Apaches and Sioux were all Indians)

aye, it's really not worth over thinking or making on it's important

it's unlikely anyone descends from anyone who just popped up british soil with no help from anywhere else

if you're proud to be anglo saxon, you should also be proud to be celtic, but there's cock all chance of anyone round here coming out with that

for the purposes of this debate, "white" will suffice

Bolty, it's time you accept you are massively out of touch

This country has moved on and it's clearly left you behind

It's up to you whether you think that's a good or bad thing

Does he have you on ignore? I hope not, as I'd quite like to see his response.

Tommy Robinson and Donald Trump fanboy.

You're a strange, strange fella.

Weirdly, that's me.

I like trump in bits and Robinson I can see what he was and is trying to do but he is going about it In a strange way and I believe he is now motivated purely for the money that he is making books etc.

I went to the mosque tonight on Deane Rd. Got invited by a mate from work the break the fast. Tommy Robinson should give it a go next year.

Out of interest what do you think Robinson is trying to do ?

All I know of this story is that he has been arrested for breaking an injunction that was in place to protect the victims of a grooming scandal. Robinson has broken the injunction because he thinks the fact the gang are (presumably) Asian is more important than the injunction. So whatever it is Robinson is trying to do he clearly thinks it is more important than the victims of the grooming ?

This might be a very simplistic view and I have spent very little time reading about the case but it does seem as you say that Robinson is much more interested in getting his name out there rather than fighting any real cause.

You are correct Michael. I pride myself on it.

To quote Jimmy, "you have to be something don't you? Otherwise you may as well throw yourself into the sea"  ;)

And saying things like Anglo Saxon culture just makes you sound completely out of touch

I am sure I will get over the disappointment  :rolleyes2:

You're entitled to your opinion of course. Mine would be that it is you who are out of touch.

Tenuous? Think 1066 is pretty definitive if you ask me.

And I'm 100% Celt.

So you've still not kicked that habit? Lose many shoes?

These injunctions to protect the kids do folk really believe that that? It’s clearly a poor attempt to keep the lid on this being Muslim grooming gangs, again! kids have already been violated beyond comprehension and yes the kids names should be kept secret but I’m happy to see folk like TR putting himself up there to make folk aware the scale of this problem, he might be a cunt he might be a self publicist but I for one am happy that his actions mean more folk are aware of the real problem, which is clearly the ingrained and disgraceful behaviour of some Muslim men.

Folk who try to deflect attention from the real issue are the real cunts and not the likes of TR.

Let’s hope that the justice system serves its purpose and puts these men inside for life, hopefully that might discourage this medieval religion to get its house in order.

What habit? Accepting invites from friends? No - I still can't seem to ditch it.

Anyway - I enjoyed it. Had a bit of a tour around. People seemed to be pleased I was there and took the time to come over and say hello. Got to see the main prayers - must have been about a thousand in the room. Funny watching people legging it in late and all the little kids larking about. It was all a lot less formal than a church which surprised me. Lots of talk from the Imams about love. He was joking that it was quiet last night because everyone was out watching the football (not what I was expecting at all). Did the breaking of the fast thing at about half 9 and then upstairs for some grub. Mango lassi is the nuts!

There were quite a few non Muslims there - apparently they get lots of visits this time of year. I'll have to try and organise a WW night out :)

On the subject of TR - got chatting to one guy who told me that he was involved in a deradicalisation programme (for Muslims and non Muslims). They've had quote a few ex EDL through the door who've found themselves in trouble and who visit the mosque as part of their rehabilitation. He said it works really well and most of them left as friends with a bit of a better understanding. Amazing what a bit of coming together can do.

Still have both my shoes - and nobody tried to groom or behead me.

PS - just for WW aficionados - they were also laughing about taxi drivers who wash their feet in the sink. So it's not just us!

Most are a bit of both:

https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.express.co.uk/news/uk/693951/Yorkshire-people-most-British-UK-Anglo-Saxan-DNA/amp

But we’re talking about culture right? And described using a period that ended 1,000 years ago. How is that remotely not out of touch

It’s also highly irrelevant to the fact TR is a plantpot

Aye.  I'm quite into all this stuff.   There's a great book - The Tribes of Britain by David Miles - that charts all British people from the first known (who were swarthy/dark skinned) to the present day.

DNA testing all across Europe shows similarities so I'd go as far as saying all N Europeans are of similar stock.  End of the day Celt, saxon, Jute or whatever they were all separate tribes that have ultimately mixed together over 1000s of years.   What's interesting in Britain is that there are similarities in DNA going way back to Roman times and it still shows regional variations as the link shows i.e more Celtic genes in the SW, NW, Eire, Wales and Scotland - which would make sense looking at how folk moved and settled.

I would argue though that our (English/British) culture is still heavily influenced by Anglo Saxon culture and there are still clear signs of that today; same for America, Australia, Germany and so on.  Yes, there is diversity but look at our social set up and compare that with traditional Celtic cultures, Asian and then Anglo-Saxon.   We are clearly more like the latter in most all aspects.

Good to hear stuff like this - our society needs more of it

If the Norman culture really ousted the pockets of Anglo Saxon culture in England at that time we'd all be speaking French, not English :)

They ruled, aye (still do some would say) but kept their culture very much to themselves; they just made everyone else their lackeys and built a few new churches

Do you think there is anyone in the country that does not know about Muslim grooming gangs ? Seriously ?

Given this case can not be reported how do you know the purpose of the injunction is anything other than what has been said?

Your arguement falls on its arse when you use the word ‘but’ after protect the kids. His agenda ahead of violated kids FFS.

And so the grooming begins. ????

The Anglo Saxons didn't speak English as we know it. The Anglo Saxon language sounded German.

What we have now is an amalgamation of Anglo Saxon, Norse, Norman and Latin.

Didn't have Norman culture? Magna Carta ring a bell?

Injunctions like this apply to all cases where the victims are minors. It isn’t a selective thing.

Do you think there is anyone in the country that does not know about Muslim grooming gangs ? Seriously ?

I’m pretty sure that without the likes of TR far fewer folk would know.

I suspect the injunction is to not protect the kids.

Your 3rd point haven’t a clue what your point is.

Thats because of the likes of TR

Yes it is all about context and relevance and, no, I wouldn't give it a second thought personally; but when folk bash others or take offence at the use of such terms I find it a bit, nit picky, shall we say

I'm happy to use the term white, black or whatever to describe someone but there are many who get offended if referred to as black as it isn't specific enough; they'll say I'm Creole, or Jamaican or whatever (just picked that as a random e.g.) and use it as a stick to beat folk with.  Does my head in.

No-one pulls up a Jap when they confuse a German with a Pole do they? ;)
