There was a league win here in the early 80s that was a bolt out of the blue in an otherwise dismal start to the season. Having just looked it up it was George Mulhall's season and Chris Thompson and Gerry McElhinney got our goals. We did the double over Derby that year because we dramatically beat them 3-2 at home in a Tuesday night match on the second last day of the season. The last match being another famous game for those with long memories, a 3-1 home win over Sheff Weds.

Other than that season our record v Derby is poor - particularly so away. I certainly don't recall an away league win there since.

There's been a few League Cup wins - the most famous of which was definitely the Quarter Final in 76.

Green shirt debut that night I think.

Don't know, it was here that I realised the Baseball Ground wasn't conducive to being a spectator at a football game. Shocking view.

Tickets ordered

Remember that corrugated iron maze they sent us down to get back to coaches? Every Derby fan must have been the other side of the sheeting, banging on the sides and shouting warnings that we'd be dead when we got to the other end. I was 14 and don't mind saying I was slightly worried. As it happened, I saw no dramas.

Yes I do and that fucking racket. They scarpered when our big lads surged out and there was a game of chasey all round those terraced house streets and back alleys for a while. Don't remember any Bolton coming off worst that night but you only see your immediate surroundings.

We were in that paddock on the same side as the players tunnel and had no bother. We could see a bit of charging to and fro in the side opposite but I recall the police preventing any contact being made?

£15 train, £24 ticket. Cheap as owt this away day lark. In.

What train is that one? Can't seem to find much under about £30.00.

have you tried splitting it down Manc - sheff, sheff- Derby

Don't mind going from Manchester, Virgin seems to be cheapest, but still coming out at £30.00.

Try a split ticketing site.

Split it Manchester-Sheffield using advance tickets on TP Express website then day returns from Sheffield to Derby.

Admittedly we used group discount (3 or more) on the Manchester-Sheffield leg and used a Two Together Railcard on the Sheffield-Derby bit.

If buying on your own, you can get Manc-Sheffield for £9.80 as single tickets on TP website then £11.90 day return Sheffield-Derby. Manchester-Derby day return is £27.60 which isn’t too bad in itself.

Me and junior via sheffield (with family railcard) - £18.70

Bargain

Tickets bought don’t recall us beating them at their ground since the 1/4 final in 76. Surely we’ve beat them since then?

Fish scored in a win in the league cup

Thompson and mcelhinney in 81, I think

Green shirt

The 4-0 when deon burton tied Jimmy Phillips up in the same amount of knots Paulo Di Canio did sticks out as a particular lowlight.

beat them in the league cup when Brown was interim manager before Allardyce

Johansen 30 yarder in the last minute

We mobbed up to watch that on a Sunday afternoon

Only went once to that shithole baseball ground

And that was enough

But it was a proper old school gaff

That was the one, went to that, but had naff all to enjoy in all my other visits.

Derby not won in 8........

Then who rolls into town........

We seem to be the greatest team to play when you are in a rut, someone is back from injury, not scored for ages, not won for ages etc etc

And so it's been almost for ever.

Dramatic is right! 1-2 down with a few minutes left and we grab an equaliser. A reasonable point but probably means we're going down. Then a mad scramble and with the last kick of the game, Hoggan (?) pokes it through a mass of legs at the Lever end and we've won. Absolute delirium on the terraces.

It was the first time I realised how much my team meant to others that night.

Just watched highlights of Derby v Sunderland - Can Derby be that shit next week

Do you really want an answer?

That week was the 1st time I found watching bolton rewarding. At 2-2 I was really gutted and left the paddock, shocked that we were going down. There was no sense of it being an important game, we felt resigned and there were only 5,000 on, no atmosphere. Then with a chance of survival we got 13k on v sheff wed and it was a fantastic occasion and atmosphere as we won 3-1 to stop up. Alan Gowling and Tony Henry the heroes.
