A bit early for this perhaps but just saw it starts in 45 days so why not!?  We can slag England off instead and give the Whites and Parky a break ;)

Currently, my enthusiasm levels are about 1 on a scale of 1 - 10.

England will do the usual, QF at best.  Just hoping we 'have a go' and keep faith in the relative youth so hopefully rewarded in the next one (or Euros)

Germany or Spain.  Nailed on.

QF would be a major success would it not?

Would it?  I'd say par for a nation like ours.

Perhaps, given the current squad, that would be decent but major success is a bit of a stretch.

I just want to see us keeping it on the deck like we have been lately and having a go at the 'better' teams.

Best English teams in my lifetime have always been attacking - we can't do it the 'Italian way'.

I'm finding now I'm getting older (or its just getting shitter) that I enjoy the build up and anticipation more than the actual event.

Looking forward to all the old world cup documentaries and features that we'll be swamped with before kick off even though I've seen most of them. The first week of the tournament will be a superb goal bonanza that'll make me like football again and then it'll settle down into fear dominated 0-0's and shoot outs.

I fancy France to win it.

This. The magic of the world cup has gone now that we see most of the players week in week out across the various European leagues covered on Sky and elsewhere. Basically all the players are known. It isn't the same excitement as seeing Pele or Maradonna for the first time.

I pretty much will enjoy the documentaries more. Every time nessun dorma plays I get shivers down my spine. Best summer I've ever had. Closely followed by 96.

ill watch england but will probably nod off

After Sat everything feels a bit shit.

It was like the opposite of a 'Carslberg' weekend for me.

I think we’ll do ok, not troubling the bigwigs, but good enough.

Just missing nouse, so hopefully we’ll have some for next time. Could do well in 2022 with the next generations coming through.

I'm looking forward to it, like i do all world cups and euros

along with the above and odd CL game, it's the only football I go out of my way to watch now

It's our defence that worries me, it's as bad as it's been for as long as i can remember

Looking forward to Gonzo’s sweepstake

The highlight of every WC

I look forward to that almost as much as his raw news reporting of the Blackpool spice epidemic

Before the last international break we were doing alright, since the break we’ve been shit and probably going down. For that reason, international football can fuck right off.

Good point - well made

Very much looking forward to it.

Regarding England, we're nowhere near as bad as many people claim, but certainly won't be challenging to win the thing. We'll get through the group then beat either of Poland, Senegal, Colombia or Japan in the second round. Quarters is where we will go out.

As already mentioned, defence is a big worry. The midfield is ok, but ok won't get you to the semis. At the moment, if it's a choice between Delle Alli and Lingard, I'd start with Lingard. Ali is overated.

Spain to win it, Argies the shock first round exit and Nigeria to be the surprise team.

I'd be looking / hoping to start them both

I'm not so sure Alli is overated - he's a 1 in 3 attacking midfielder with even more assists - him and Lingard could be a perfect fit behind Kane (based on PL form, not England form)

problem with Alli is he he's a petulant shit who always seems to be on the verge of a card, so be interesting to see how foreign refs take to his tackling and diving - he could well be the scapegoat this summer if he gets caught out

Aye, i love it. Its ace, im one who will be sat down watching egypt v saudi arabia or morocco v iran. And still have a wall chart of course!

I start off like that but by the second round of fixtures I start losing interest.

It disappears completely once the inevitable happens.
