birch-chorley Posted May 16, 2018 Posted May 16, 2018 I like it. There’s a few players in there that I’m not overly fussed about but not all of them will get game time... there’s a good first 11 and back up 5 or 6 in that lot. One area I think will see us come unstuck is centre mid. I like Henderson but would much rather have seen him play next to Ox/Shelvey/Wilshire rather than what looks set to be Dier (unless Loftus Cheek gets shoved in there). Shame about the Ox’s injury, he was playing the best football I’ve ever seen him play and was forming a good partnership with Henderson. A front 3 made up of Kane, Ali and Sterling/Rashford should be creating plenty of chances and scoring goals If Ox hadn’t have got injured then I would have liked to have seen us start with Henderson, Ox and Milner as a middle three. Worked well for Liverpool, they could well win the CL with that set up. Granted he is injured so other options are not as strong for me as three who know each other inside out A forward 2 of Kane and Sterling is strong IMO, based on club form anyway. Add in a third of either Ali or Rashford and it’s still very strong for me Defensively it’s a bit weak but who isn’t. Nobody cares about defending anymore, I can only think of Juventus and Athletico Madrid as teams in Europe who still give a shit. Argentina just got beat about 8-0 by someone I fancy us for a shock semi final spot, more down to the competition being weaker than anything else
waffer cup 07 Posted May 16, 2018 Posted May 16, 2018 As Pope is keeping him out He's only just regained fitness.
jmjhb Posted May 16, 2018 Posted May 16, 2018 Not a bad squad. Perhaps one too many fullbacks though.
enzo gambaro Posted May 16, 2018 Posted May 16, 2018 Not a bad squad. Perhaps one too many fullbacks though.Suppose Young and Delph offer cover in more than one position.
Dr Faustus Posted May 16, 2018 Posted May 16, 2018 (edited) He's only just regained fitness.A month ago Pope won players player and fans player of the year at Burnley- his stats have been amazing, and a big reason for their Euro qualification is the two keepers and the coaching set up. Next season will be interesting. Edited May 16, 2018 by Dr Faustus
Casino Posted May 16, 2018 Posted May 16, 2018 I reckon they'd be better with Redfearn than henderson

Think he flatters to deceive a bit at this level but he could (with Lallana) have been the one to find that killer pass in a game. We have pace, youth and decent attacking options. Midfield does look potentially a bit dull though. Can't see past QFs but you never know with tournament football.
gonzo Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 Jack Wheelchair has had to time to think. Can’t believe he’s only 26 by the way. Think its about time I had my say... It goes without saying that I’m naturally incredibly disappointed to have been left out of the England squad for the World Cup. I’ve felt fit, sharp and strong all season and believe I should be in the squad! And given the chance i could have made a real inpact. However, I have to respect the manager’s decision and would like to wish the whole squad all the very best for the tournament. I will always be an England fan and will be supporting the boys with the rest of the nation ????????????
Didledee Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 (edited) Should have given him a look vs Nigeria and Costa Rica, we will not require all 23 players, he's talented enough to take as a 'risk' Edited May 17, 2018 by Didledee
Mounts Kipper Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 When England learn to keep position against top teams I’ll start getting excited this lot can’t do it so it’s all a bit academic for me.
Marc505 Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 Sick of us taking injury risk players, it has very rarely worked out in the tournaments I can remember
Zico Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 Jack Wheelchair has had to time to think. Can’t believe he’s only 26 by the way. I reckon he's played less games and had more comebacks than Kieron Dyer had done by the time he was 26
madthatter Posted May 18, 2018 Author Posted May 18, 2018 That's what cocaine does to you. Allegedly What, spouting bollocks about yourself to anyone that will listen Didn't he get caught having a joint or did I dream that?
gonzo Posted May 18, 2018 Posted May 18, 2018 That's what cocaine does to you. Allegedly Don’t think half of this board would be able to walk now if it did.
Guest Posted May 18, 2018 Posted May 18, 2018 Should have given him a look vs Nigeria and Costa Rica, we will not require all 23 players, he's talented enough to take as a 'risk' He's 26 and still hasn't made over 200 starts in his career. Sterling is 3 years younger and far ahead on appearances. He's an attacking midfield who in 127 league starts has scored 8 goals. Our midfield isn't very good. But Wilshere isn't the answer and never will be.
madthatter Posted May 18, 2018 Author Posted May 18, 2018 https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44163416 Hardly performed when it has mattered though has he? Good call for me and a strong one too.

Didledee Posted May 18, 2018 Posted May 18, 2018 (edited) He's 26 and still hasn't made over 200 starts in his career. Sterling is 3 years younger and far ahead on appearances. Well I think he's the best passer we have available and he would have have been included in the last friendlies if not for injury so it's not like he's not been good enough, Southgate mentioned that he didn't feel his current form had been good enough since then though(March to May) I don't think he gets in a midfield of Dier, Hendersen and Alli or Lingard(or both if he goes with Sterling behind Kane and not Rashford, Kane Sterling) anyway but if we need to break down team like Tunisia and Panama and our plan A ain't working, he certainly could find gaps with his passing, we really shouldn't need 2 sitting CDM'S v Panama. Looking further past the groups/first 2 games like I say he won't get in the starting 11, it's looks like it going to be 3-5-2 or 3-4-3 so I don't see him fitting in, but would still liked to have had him there for a sub, much more than Loftus Cheek and Welbeck(because we have Vardy) Edited May 18, 2018 by Didledee
DazBob Posted May 18, 2018 Posted May 18, 2018 Wilshere would, or should, have been behind Shelvey anyway. I just can't understand why he's not in the squad. He's got a range of passing like no one else in the squad and would have offered a completely different dimension if needed. If we are in a game and we need someone dropping balls in behind the defence for the likes of Vardy to run onto, there'd have been no one better.
