The worst massacre in The English Civil War happened.

It was in our town.

The Bolton Massacre also known as The Storming of Bolton.

Many died at the hands of The Royalist Troops.

Leigh White and Ronnie Phillips we’re in the Scythe when it actually kicked off.

Incredible story. Do we know why Bolton was the only town not to be Royalist in the area? They must of known this wasn’t going to end well?

I’m pretty sure Manchester was Parliamentarian too.

That's why they were denied any MPs from the restoration until the Reform Act of 1832.

But those eligible to vote could trek up to Lancaster to vote there.

Wiki reckons Leigh was pretty evenly split, but I was always taught that it was largely Parliamentarian with Wigan being Royalist.

A few Parliamentarian towns, Manchester too large a fortitude to take. The cowardly attack took place at night without warning, so many civilians died... Didn't it lead to agreed rulings on acts of war?

I'd much rather remember the Preston Massacre which occurred on the same day in 2001...

Leigh was split 52/48. So totally Parliamentarian.

Ani, it doesn’t matter if it was 50.01/49.99...it was still the majority.....just like the Brexit vote.

As you were.
