Random social media stuff

There isn't a thread for sharing the random shit you see on social, and they all can't have their own threads, so maybe this one ought to do it

Also irritates when a paper runs a story and then includes what folk have been tweeting about it, as if they are relevant

A woman my missus knows has been in the Mail recently. They basically 'wrote a story' by just lifting her Instagram posts.

Published her name, shit loads of photos and made it look like they'd interviewed her. All without permission. She had no idea until one of her friends told her she was in the paper.

She then had hundreds of  comments from the maggots who read the rag online slagging her off for how she looks. She's a young lass in her 20s. Soul destroying.

Absolute scum.

Question: Do you reassign copyright by putting photos on instagram? I’d say any newspaper would be in breach of copyright if they’re lifting photos from social media platforms.

I have no idea. Maybe they can argue they are already in the public domain?

Either way, it stinks.

Pics from Facebook and other social media are frequently used by media organisations when they're reporting on crime.  Makes me think copyright can't be an issue

Yep: my brother in law kicked off that his privacy had been invaded after he was charged with voyeurism. Irony clearly lost on him

Seen a few times on twitter where someone's posted something that's gone viral and you have a reporter asking if they can use it
