Sarcasm and piss takes are a "pillar" of this place, we all get whooshed from time to time. :)

Good luck.

I have a lot of time for your views and I wish the environmental movement would listen to them more.

It's just some of the comments on this thread are lazy and misinformed. You can't generalise a whole movement as 'workshy wankers', 'swampies' and 'attention seeking climate twats who are doing nothing different to the rest of us'. If it's a bit of banter then fair enough, I'm all for a mungbean burger joke, but it seems to go further than that. I could give countless examples of the reality being far different than those stereotypes, but I'm not wasting my time. It's just representative of a current political system and society where nobody seems willling to look past their own narrow viewpoint to make any sort of compromise.

Anyway, I'm taking a break from this thread. But I'll show my face again when XR make it to the headlines again in October.

Take it easy

Take care, see you next month Greta x

I just don’t know where people find the time to be bothered.

Being paid handsomely to do this instead of a real job seems to be the answer.

How else would they live ?

We've just got to hope that Steve is right and that everybody else who's actually qualified to have an opinion is wrong.

I've never wanted Steve to prove the experts wrong more in my life! :)

Compare?

If Greta hates western society so much and wants to return to dark ages shittyness why don't she fuck off and become an ISIS bride, instead of twatting about on the high seas with a couple of pugwash paedos?

And shitting in a bucket...

I saw it on the news.

(The bucket, not the shitting).

I’m in Prague. I come here often and I’ll probably end up here. That’s not important.

Spoke to a couple of young Czech lads tonight, well educated and 28 years old. They said pretty much the same as I’ve  been saying that no matter what we do, the growth in China and other developing countries with aspirations to equal the lifestyle that we have will make our attempts utterly pointless. (I make the point that it isn’t middle aged blokes or women with this point of view)

In 2002 there were 59 million cars on the road in China. Today there are over 300 million.

There are just over 30 million cars on the road in the UK.

I think a radical approach by the UK to ban all cars would make a huge impact.

In 12 months there will be 330 million cars on the roads of China. As I’ve said before, whatever we do, it doesn’t matter.

I take your point. But if you're out in the countryside and people have been littering - do you just think - balls to it the place is a shit tip anyway and chuck your stuff everywhere?

It doesn't make any sense to just attempt nothing. That approach is catastrophic.

Have you had a knock to the head recently?

Most of what we can all do is just common sense. Plastic packaging for instance was introduced during my lifetime. I try and avoid it wherever I can.

This report about the projected number of vehicles world wide in the next 30 years makes the banning of plastic straws look like throwing sticks at the moon.

I think we've gone way past the point where individual changes (helpful though they might be in a small way) are going to make any real difference - so I agree with you to that extent. Sticking an energy saving lightbulb in or using a paper straw at McDonald's and thinking we've cracked it is farcical. That's why I've no problem with Greta Thunberg or Extinction Rebellion. No matter how 'annoying' people find them. That's almost part of their job. We need a planet wide, governmentally and institutionally led way to the way we produce C02 as a species. That's only going to happen if there's pressure from below because they aren't going to take the radical kind of steps we need them to if we're all acquiescent.

What we do about China et al I don't know. But if the western liberal democracies (if they even exist anymore) could at least get our houses in order then we'd be seen as the leaders again.

We haven't got time to be pissing around anymore.

What if China went "reet, fuck it lads - it's back to bikes and rice..."

Would we follow suit? No, there'd be some bollocks reasons aplenty why we need stuff; a car ("I need it for my work - how else would I get my fat arse there?") excess protein ("I need my cheap clean protein so my paper thin ego is preserved and I can still shag my bird") Uneccessary flights ("I need to go all over the shop for one upmanship now conspicuous consumerism is seen as a bit naff") Conspicuous consumption ("I need eighty two pairs of adidas to inspire desire in potential gay lovers at the match and envy in my love rivals") 😲

We're fucked and the ones living in shacks in the middle of nowhere with seeds and machine guns are right. I reckon the Earth will shake us off like fleas long before we've fucked it beyond repair.

She was a plant. A lunatic Right Wing organisation called LaRouche has already owned up to it.

Why?

Not exactly achieved anything, other than to prove she/they are loons.
