I just find it odd that those who are so very proud of our history as a nation, are so very quick to dismiss some of the tenets that we are rightly proud of.

I'm pretty sure after the war people worked together to rebuild the country, and this meant collective sacrifice.

The only people I hear moaning about not being allowed to do anything they want from June are those who are the quickest to run up the Union Flag at any old opportunity.

Well, here's a thing. This is our chance to work hard for the greater good, to protect the most vulnerable, to think of our fellow countryfolk before we think of ourselves, to really help our nurses and doctors by adhering to the science and the facts put before us.

And not moan about not being able to go to Spain this year.

It would be great to be on a boat

Oh so folk buying holidays here aren’t supporting British workers? Travel agents, pilots, airport staff, I do hope hope you check the Covid rates wherever you go in that U.K. I’ll be pcr tested and quarantined when I arrive back so in real terms I’m less risk than the gingers holidaying in Blighty.

I agree on all of this. Foreign travel at present would be illogical at best and asking for big trouble at worst. However I have also observed first hand through my profession and elsewhere just how much in your comfort zone leftie liberals like you are when curbing individual freedoms and treating people as if they are pieces on a chess-board.

Once the crisis has stopped and things are much safer than they are now, individual freedoms must be reinstated and compulsion must end.

By the way .... your beloved EU has really shown its prowess with that huge power you and your remainer friends say tey have via 27 nations collaborating altogether. That line remainers have been repeating over and over for years. What a slick operation the vaccine rollout has been. They have left the UK in the shade. I wish I'd voted remain in 2016 instead of thinking nimble nation states are far better at delivering for their populations than over-weening sclerotic, slovenly bureaucracies with their 'precautionary principles'. Still you live and learn.

Please don't bring it round to your favourite topic. I wasn't in anyway talking about the EU, so let's just park that.

I'd also be hard pressed to find anyone who is happy with our situation, but if staying in this country for the next year helps us to get out of this quicker and be able to see family again (I personally haven't seen my family for coming up for a year) then I really don't think it's too much to ask.

Again, it's all about your needs, or rather wants. If you are so concerned about the livelihoods of those in the travel industry, donate some cash. Don't try a wrap this up as you helping.

Being part of a nation means some form of collectivism. No one is happy at the moment, so put the toys back in the pram and just enjoy being here with your family.

It won't kill you to stay here for another 12 months. Come on, show that Dunkirk spirit we are so famed for.

Then you can fly a Union jack. For us landlubbers it's a flag.

I agree.

I will not park it. Uncomfortable tackling the subject of the EU are we? Bad case of cognitive dissonance? Perhaps at the very least the beginning of a dawning that the endless deification of Brussels by remainers was very, very ill-judged?

If the government listed countries as red orange and yellow

Red you couldn’t go without

Orange yes but you have to isolate when you come back

yellow have to show a negative test before you arrive back in Blighty

Do you reckon that would work?

Im all for proper measures going in place, there has to be some form of compromise to get things going again.

I think it’s a sensible starting point, of course there is risk of transmission when people mix whether that’s in U.K. or overseas, countries that have similar low infection levels should be able to open travel corridors, as an extra level of protection overseas you need a negative pcr test, last year on return to U.K. you could do a 5 day quarantine and test and release, I think that’s sensible belt & braces approach. Failure to reopen tourism to safe areas will result in massive job loses, there has to be a sensible approach to avoid that scenario, this plan seems a good starting point to me.

Another "fact" brought to you by the BBC.

I bet you never called it that as a kid. Don't fib.

The BBC?

It's just one of those facts you learn as you, I don't know... grow up, read stuff, go and visit museums and the like?

I can travel after 30th March regardless so it’s not about my needs, there is a bigger picture, thousands if not millions of jobs here and abroad depend on tourism,  close to home our European friend in Greece, Spain & Italy are heavily reliant on tourism and are close to financial collapse, if a system can be put in place where some tourism can resume and help folk in this sector then it should.

Our European friends should have got their vaccination programme sorted.

I genuinely thought the Union Jack/Union Flag thing was something you learned in primary school.

Anyway, as you were...

We all know a Jack belongs on a ship and a flag on land but until not very long ago, Union Jack was the accepted terminology for either.

Only a real pedant would pretend someone’s an ignorant fucker for using the wrong word.

Oh yeah I certainly wouldn’t pick someone up on the usage for it, I just thought it was common knowledge. I’m not that boring (nor remotely arsed enough).

Me me me me me me me me me me me me

You going to buy a ticket to the theatre, visit a museum as soon as you can?

Got to a restaurant in the UK? In fact, why not holiday here, support to thousands of jobs that rely on internal tourism. Why spend your money elsewhere?

You are all heart.

By a decree of Parliament in the early 1900s I believe you can use either, so BD is right to use whatever he wants.

I'm reading a book about navel history at the moment - I've got another about Shackleton on the go as well.

I would have thought that true patriots like RW wouldn't condem or take the piss out of anyone for learning about our navel history.

I guess if knowledge passes for being boring these days, then we really are fucked.

Given what is spouted, I'd rather be on lockdown than spend any time in the company of the blowhards that pontificate their options as facts on here.

So he's not going to Spain because he wants a holiday, its to support the Spainish tourism board.

I swear you couldn't make Mounts up, even if you pieced together all the cuttings of jingoistic rhetoric over the last 5 years.
