Burnden Park Pitch

England in Wanderers kit. But that's by-the-by.

I thought our pitch was always a raised surface. If my eyes are deceiving me then this picture says different.

I remember Alan Thompson putting Kinkldze down the hill onto the cinders in the first five minutes of a game v City and he just didn't want to know after that.

It’s a Magees Ales bar, think I remember my Dad telling me there was one there and one on the Manchester Road side adjacent to the police control box, where I know there was a bar in the 70s and 80s.

Looks like the Burnden paddock lever end side to me.

A picture of the pitch drop down , not sure of year , early 60's.

It actually could be pre 1957 because I can't see any floodlights , unless they are lost in the gloom.

Isn’t the lad on the left a local comedian?

Burnden 1938 . I wonder what this chap would have thought about under soil heating.

He’s not funny.

A large hole appeared in the pitch at the Lever End side during one season .It was probably early - mid seventies .This spawned many jokes about useless players disappearing down it.There was a serious on going problem with subsidence all around the ground hence the excessive piling that went on in the Normid build.

Father in law used to do maintenance on the ground in the close season .He told me that he had seen several Manny road stand stanchions swing in fresh air following subsidence.

Some great pics on the nostalgia section of that site.

One v United at home in 78/79, first time I've seen pics from that match.

Cracker of Jeff Chandler with Dave Felgate, and a player I don't recognise.

It's Tony Caldwell , if it's the legends line up for the Charlton match.

Yes, Caldwell, thanks chaps.

This looks like a pre season match, I'm guessing Blackburn,  but their badge looks different

Skip that, it takes you back to the beginning.

On another pic, it has Peter Thompson with John Thomas, Julian Darby and one I don't recognise, any ideas who it is ? It's not bringing the names up for me.

To get the picture description up , I just tapped on the photo once and it appeared at the bottom , not sure if that helps.

Great pics on there. I was amazed to see seats in The Lever End when Frankie was playing. Was convinced that they went in much later than that

Brilliant pics. As long as you ignore the ones of Cuntona towards the end.
