Goal Posts

The photo in the 1923 thread got me thinking about how goal post evolved over the years and the history behind the changes. Strange to think that once they used string tied to the tops 🙃

Here are a few links with some history.

Even though they are not made from wood now we still refer to hitting the 'woodwork'.

An honourable mention to these deep bastards at Zaragoza

The Dell had the shallow ones

Chelsea's weird shaped ones always remind me of Dmitri Kharine and his tracksuit bottoms

Was always fascinated by the Spanish custom of painting the base of a goalpost black

Fuckin' love talking about nets.

Ipswich's are one of my all time favourites, what was the point of that?!

Real shame to find out a blog called History Of Goal Nets has been stripped down to a few posts now, it used to be an in depth exploration of goal nets worldwide.

While trying to find the blog I came across this photo though, they are needlessly massive!

Those nets at Zaragoza

That looks ace. I’m struggling getting lines on the lawn, so I’ve turned to hoovering lines into the living room rug. The work of a furloughed sociopath according to the wife.

Does your mower have a roller?  You'll struggle for a stripped lawn with a hover mower

I've always liked how De Freitas' first goal against Reading skipped up and got stuck in the corner of the net.

This one is just crazy. How this got through the net I don't know.

It’s a petrol rotary that I assumed had a rear roller. It doesn’t :)

You need to call tmgj, he'll have a mower with a stripe attachment.
