We did play Leeds the year before in a League Cup night match though. It was a night game. He was planted by the corner of Burnden Paddock & Lever End, around the 6 yard line. It was, using McGinlay's later words, "just a wee nudge".
Site Supporter MickyD Posted March 28, 2021 Site Supporter Share Posted March 28, 2021 That happened to Kinkladze when we played City. Alan Thompson 'tackled' him down the hill onto the cinders in first ten minutes of the game. He just didn't show for the ball again for the rest of the game. I reckon that tackle would get a red card these days.

Graham , Jordan and Frank Gray in the League cup , and Graham again in the 3-1 Home Win.

A mate of mine from Mansfield remembers being introduced to Burnden Bricks in 85 , he said the locals weren't too impressed with being knocked out of the All Members Cup. Today's fan would never believe those things were a regular occurrence.

Went on the Mansfield home end when we beat them 1-0 in 78, must admit, they had a tidy little mob but never bothered us when we were diving about when that Ritson goal went flying in. nantwichwhite
Was there a story on here about Bolton doing the Cockney Reds on Piccadilly, one of them phoned for help but had the phone taken off them and met with the comment "Its too late we've smashed them"

They got a bit naughty in the 90's and they used to get Forest joining up with them sometimes , if they were away . When they re- opened the Railway station near the ground , the Police made them house away fans at the opposite end of the ground because they had a lot of aggro with Fans crossing paths going to the station. Mate got nicked at Mansfield bumped into their mob pre game bit of a stand-off then long haired lad at front gobbed on my mate, saw same lad in ground and he was giving us dogs abuse, mate said if I see him after the game I’m gonna fill him in, anyhow didn’t see lad on walk back to the car but we were in police escort with the coaches and we pulled up at the traffic lights, who was there but the lad who gobbed pre match with about 20 lads, without saying a word mate launched himself out of the car on top of the lad, one out all out, so we decamped out of the car, ended up 3 of us in police cells, 2 of us got released and 1 lad who did nowt was charged. Ended up in Mansfield crown court, and although guilty lad owned up to it judge just ignored it, thankfully only a fine but a hefty one. Anyhow year after saw same lad, thumbs up smiled and no further hassle. Happy daft days they were.
