Daily death rate in Gaza higher than any other major 21st Century conflict - Oxfam

Published: 11th January 2024

Israeli military killing 250 Palestinians per day with many more lives at risk from hunger, disease and cold

Hardly surprising considering the population density.

Would have been far, far worse if they had wanted it to be.

Why do you think they are holding back?

Could probably have been a lot less as well, if they had wanted it to be.

Trump is well jealous of that!

It's a point so few will acknowledge, let alone discuss.

No neighbours are bending over backwards to let them in.

Why should they? It only supports Israel’s goals.

Still no news on that “official analysis” of yours then I see.

Bit of a mare today mate

The same reason many countries bordering Ukraine opened their borders.

Two very different conflicts tbh

Egypt & other neighbours have said they do it to prevent Israel forcing a permanent expulsion of Palestinians into their countries and preventing Palestinians forming their own state. They provide a lot of support in other ways.

Netanyahu has already said he doesn’t want them to have their own state.

You’d think the welfare of millions of innocents, literally meters away, would Trump that.

Egypt don't want Hamas and other Palestinian Islamist militants destabilising the Sinai peninsula

It's also a country with deep financial problems and has reservations of supporting the arrival of thousands more refugees

Is the second reason they’ve said.

They’ve made it very clear that doing so legitimises Israel’s goals.

The solution- let Palestine have its own state. Who’s preventing that?

Strange diversion there

No diversion. Theres millions of innocent people facing what looks like death, Egypt could easily prevent that. They’re choosing not to because of politics

A little credulous

The border remains closed because the Egyptian government has determined it's in their national interest

“Egypt has affirmed, and is reiterating, its vehement rejection of the forced displacement of the Palestinians and their transfer to Egyptian lands in Sinai, as this will mark the last gasp in the liquidation of the Palestinian cause, shatter the dream of an independent Palestinian state, and squander the struggle of the Palestinian people and that of the Arab and Islamic peoples over the course of the Palestinian cause that has endured for 75 years,”

Leaked Israeli intelligence already shows they want to forcibly move people over to Egypt. Jordan and Lebanon were told to take some temporarily and they’ve been living in camps for decades.

Nobody can expect Egypt to suddenly take a million refugees overnight. It would be a huge risk and some of those would be militants.

We could all take our share. But that is what Israel wants.

It won’t be too long now before Israel loses its Western ties. Views are shifting here and in the US and I can see it happening over the next decade. They need to vote in a less extreme government who supports a two state solution.

No wonder they don’t want the cancer of Hamas terrorists entering their borders, it’s a shame that Muslim countries don’t want the responsibility of dealing with these terrorists…. When Israel does the dirty work for them they bleat and moan that Israel is the aggressor… the Muslim world, nations are fucked in the head.

Well yes, that's obviously what's claimed

Aye, some claim ey. That neighbouring Arab countries want Palestine to be allowed to form their own state and for Israel to stop taking more land. Shock horror of a claim that one. Proper conspiracy stuff. 🙄

Of course, it's all in aid of Palestine's right to their own state and not at all to do with their own interest in maintaining the security of the Sinai peninsula

Not at all

Some on here will be more concerned that it was posted by the Mail. Basically is it’s not the Guardian, James O Brien or some bearded yank then it doesn’t count,
