November 11, 20214 yr When did this become an online dick swinging contest, like everything else? I can’t ever remember thinking that the most important part of 11/11 was being seen to be the best in show for Poppy Day. Its almost like there’s a pressure to be the bestest at remembering. We should all pay our respects but there shouldn’t be this almost hysterical zeal that you need to be “better” at it than others. It’s like War Christmas on Facebook and Twitter.

I sat down with my little girl last night and explained as simple as I could why we have poppies. She’s 4 so it’s pretty much like talking to a cat, or my Nan. On the lines of it’s to remember people who have had to do things in the past so we can live in a happier world. To be fair to her she listened, before she had to attend to a barbie emergency. Then my Mrs showed a post on Facebook, and I don’t even want to describe it because it makes me cringe but it was a woman arms around her kids poppies on, Union Jack filter with the words, so grateful we beat Germany so my kids could live. Never Surendar (yes that was the spelling) No idea what 1966 has to do with Remembrance Day.
November 11, 20214 yr I stopped buying them a few years ago just because of this jingoistic, one upmanship bullshit. There's a Twitter site 'Poppy watch' that highlights some shocking examples similar to Rudys. Never Surendar 😄
November 11, 20214 yr I don’t buy poppies but if I see someone and have change it’ll go in the bucket. They’re generally crap, don’t last and end up on the floor somewhere. Doesn’t mean I’m any less respectful or grateful than poppy Pete. Weird behaviour

November 11, 20214 yr I quite like the figures and the display the council now puts out. For me though, it's important that they go back away again afterwards. Would like to see the poppies plastic free too. Undoubtedly a bit of "remembrance off" going on, but fuck em.
