I’m not saying that they won’t look to make some improvements to the stadium but it’s not a good return on their investment.

There are 2 months in the year where we can make money on concerts and even then, we have to compete against the AO arena, Co-op, Etihad, old Trafford cricket ground, Hill Dickinson etc etc which are all far more attractive.

Let’s say we managed to be successful and attracted 5 big concerts in those 2 months. This is complete pie in the sky but you’re not adding more than £2-5m of profit from those considering the costs that would go into it. Nice to have - absolutely, worth the required investment and the way that these Yanks reckon they will make their big money with us - no chance.

You could instead stick the money into the team to try and get lucky and hit 8th in the league and reach the playoffs offs. Who knows from there, we all know it becomes a bit of a lottery. If it all goes right and we reach the promised land then these guys have just 100x their money. That’s what they want, not reducing our losses whilst pumping capex in to do so.

It absolutely makes sense that they will use whatever nouse they have to improve commercial revenues - frankly it reduces the amount of their own money they have to pump in. Anyone thinking that this is the main reason for buying us though is mad. World class concert venue for 2 months and a L1 football club for the other 10 is no use to anyone, especially them.

This is the bloke who thought fuck it i will shell out 365m and build a concert venue a few hundred yards from a Stadium that has hosted some of the biggest bands in the world....Less than 2miles from the AO and less than 5 miles from both Old Trafford cricket and football grounds....Most people if asked would have said concert capacity in Manchester was saturated before the Co op was added.

Sharon always said we'd need external investment when we got to the Championship. Well, guess what?

It gives FV/Trafigura a bit of a funding break, allows us to focus more on improving the squad and making a start on those commercial, infrastructure and 'fan experience' upgrades. Win-win.

Come across more as property developers than owt else (and given the Trump pardon, dodgy ones).

Managing to keep my excitement comfortably contained for the time being.

I think it’s probably easier just to go of what the club is actually saying it’s a small amount of shares a seat on the board and it won’t effect the figures on the playing side which they have told us will be on the low side .

Trying to second guess this guys motives above what he actually does which is putting events on and the club using is expertise to generate more long term revenue

I must have missed it then if the club has said anything about shares?

All I've read is 'investment'.

I very much doubt that a bloke recently given a presidential pardon has rocked up here looking to put a couple of million or so into the club that won't effect it much?

Why bother doing that?

I think there is a much bigger plan than that

I wrote in my very first post on this subject yesterday about his remarks about the O2 and Co.Op Live and suggested that there most have been some reason to reference that

I don't believe his involvement is simply to power jet the stadium walls and wipe the bird seats of the seats, he's way to big a fish to be doing that.

What the plan is I don't know but I strongly suggest it has little to nothing in regards to improving our first team squad.

Fwiw IF he HAS bought some new shares AND the 'investment' will have little to no effect on player cost or transfer budget then whatever he's put in (say £5m) is £5m less off the maximum £15m that FV can put in this season towards SCR.

It would make more sense to me if FV puts in the £15m and EEP 'invest' by other means than share purchase.

Maybe the idea is something along the lines of contracting out the running of services such as the ticket office etc, with EEP paying a sum to FV for doing so and making their money back by cost savings and efficiency savings, with a contract length of multiple years to make it worthwhile to EEP along with any income from concerts they may put on?

The sentence continues ...but rather it is the next step in the club’s journey of sustainable growth since its takeover by Football Ventures in 2019.

I don't know what that means, do you?

I imagine it is more to do with becoming more efficient as a company, reducing costs and improving efficiency (and looking to squeeze more money from the fans

Yes, what you've said is correct and that will be a part of it. The best way of making things sustainable for a football club is selling players for a profit... something we've not done regularly since the 90s

We do need to fuck our deal off with TM to be honest, ours is shite and the customer gets saddled with a load of booking charges. Can't really do that when you've just started tickets for the season though 🤦‍♀️

you kind of answered your own question at the top...He is not coming here to powerwash the birdshit.........And he is not coming here to say he will cut the booking fees from a £1 to 50p

You mean during all those seasons whilst we had the dogs bollocks set up with Eddie Davies millions, and the training facility up at Euxton.

ALL teams dream about producing multi-million pound players to sell on every year, very few manage it though.

We certainly didn't even though we had much better facilities during most of that time than the Cat 2 category we've just got back to.

Jeezus, this is like the liquidation months, some of the stuff on here wow.

Keep it simple fellas, we now have loaded yanks on the board, money has come in, none of us know what it will be used for but come on, we are not going to announce bolton have just got a stash of cash for transfers, that 1 mill signing, well he is now 2.5 .

Let's just see where this all takes us, total trust in fv.

I'm sceptical that we or any club is going to reliably turn a profit on player sales because there are just too many variable at play, but it doesn't have to involve producing them from our Academy

Well thank you, I think?

That's been my very point in every post I've made on this topic from first hearing the news to now.

Leiweke is here and on the board for a reason. it doesn't seem player related from what has been reported, so it must be for some other reason and it isn't to do with something trivial.

That's been my reasoning from the start.

Aye, we hardly sold anyone during the Big Sam PL years. Jensen and Eidur early on in the Championship, then Ricketts, then it goes dry for a few years. Anelka after that I think.

Didn't Brentford do away with their reserves and youth team (or something like that)?

They've done very well doing without them it seems.

I think there's a happy middle ground whereby you're not necessarily reliant on it but it becomes sort of par for the course through previously smart business.

Middlesbrough getting a huge chunk of that Morgan Rogers money for instance. We wouldn't get any money for Trafford, unless he goes abroad.

Where I’m at. I generally think yanks are bad news in football. Contained rather than annoyed or upset.

It is the first time I've heard anyone at FV mention about their ambition is to be a Premier League club and I've no idea how EEP's involvement would "enhance fan experience and the ways that they (we) engage with the team"?

no it isn't

i posted a quote and a link for you from Sharon saying exactly that in this very thread, when you thought she was selling up and moving house

Well none of those came from 'growing our own' either, did they?

Just now, Sluffy said:

No, but we're not solely relying on the Academy, are we? Our business this summer and last confirms that.

Thomason this year becomes a 5-10M player and not a 1.2M one simply because of the level he's performing at.

But the Co-op is an all year round dedicated indoor concert venue, the only one it’s competing against really is the AO. It raised an eyebrow because I too thought there wouldn’t be the need with already having the AO but it’s taken share.

You cannot compare that to our place though. Other than being a dedicated music venue, it’s in Manchester!! I don’t care that we’re “20 minutes down the road”, being in Manchester vs. being in Bolton counts for a hell of a lot.

If it were that easy and profitable to turn a football stadium into a concert venue, do you not think the likes of the Coates at Stoke, who basically have unlimited money in Championship terms, would have done it ages ago?

He’s here for one thing and one thing only, for Bolton to be a premier league football team. It really shouldn’t take much to realise that it is the only way in which Bolton Wanderers is an attractive and valuable football club.

P.s - if there is a roof on it in the next 25 years I’ll bungee jump from it naked.

Not sure if you have been to the States. Quite a lot of the Stadia are out of town. I really hope you are right and he see's us as a punt on the football side. The likes of the Coats at Stoke and Gibsons at Boro are in it for the football and are not that bothered about losses year on year and have no interest in using their stadiums for anything other than football. I am sure things will become clearer in the next few weeks, it will be great if football related, but either way i think it could be win,win

I don’t agree with that Eddie. The Reebok/Toughsheet is a North West venue not a Bolton one but it is bang next to the Motorway and has excellent public transport connections. Personally I’d much rather visit a stadium out of town and easier to access than have to traverse a city centre. Over here the Sheffield Arena is nowhere near the City Centre nor is the Meadowhall Shopping Centre but both are close to and easily accessible from the M1. At the end of the day though we are first and foremost a football club and I can’t see any way a huge outfit like these are not going to assist in getting us into the PL because that’s where the real money is. How they’ll do it we don’t yet know but make no mistake they want us in the PL and the sooner the better and they’ll invest to ensure that.
