ErnestTurnip
The Cooder/Vai duel got mentioned in passing so it's only right to give a shout out to those involved in the best (rock) guitar duel of all time, Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner on Oh Jim from Lou Reed Live. Never matched let alone bettered.

Pete Sandoval and Dave Lombardo. Someone will probably say him out of Rush who's brown bread - bollocks. He couldn't live with the other two - well his ghost couldn't. Classical guitarists can in the main stick their acoustic where monkeys stick their nuts. Mitch Mitchell Keith Moon John Bonham

Site Supporter Spider Posted December 17, 2021 Site Supporter Share Posted December 17, 2021 I watched Dave Lombardo with fixated awe for an hour once at Donington. He’s an octopus. A furious, inch perfect one at that.

The death and heavy metal ones I used to enjoy, slayer, iron maiden, slipknot, Metallica. ?uestlove from The Roots is a great drummer, I’ve seen them a few times he does a great 10 minute drum solo where he just blends all famous drum beats. Drummers aren’t just mental orangutans
Site Supporter Spider Posted December 17, 2021 Site Supporter Share Posted December 17, 2021 Neil Peart is, from a technical point of view, actually better than all others. He's a bit too good, if anything.
Dimron
All the great drummers are brown bread... Moon, Bonham, Powell. Peart and Palmer are technicians and not that entertaining in my book Saw Billy Cobham at the Winter Gardens many years ago... he was good if a little jazzy. Check out his Spectrum album

Not in Crawley
I've not got through the thread but I hope some of the disco/funk guitarists having been missed off being mentioned. Nile Rogers is a guitar genius. Bootsy and Catfish Collins, and not forgetting Prince. Also, Rhythm Guitarists - Malcom Young god of the groove, the genius of Hetfield's downpicking - he's like a drummer and a bassist (its also why Lars only has Hetfield's guitar in his earpiece he's that metronomic)
