Bruce Foxton as well, and I'm not a massive Jam fan but I think bass players in three pieces have to be excellent in locking in the rhythm but also providing melody.

I love Peter Hook's playing as well but not a traditional bassist-way.

Lemmy was also a bass innovator, he played chords on most songs with heavy distortion and was also a great songwriter starting with the bass

Town Called Malice... that bass part could have been lifted from the Motown catalogue. superb

Saw bluesman Shuggie Otis at Manchester Academy a few years ago, when the bassist took the stage with that extra 5th string machine head on his guitar I knew it was going to be good and funky, I wasn't wrong but I never got to know his name
