The Cost Of Living Crisis

Anyone felt the pinch yet?

Notice a good proportion of my hotels are quiet this week. But with the jubilee round the corner and pride the week after maybe folk are simply saving their trips for that.

Cant help but feel the media are driving a lot of it. They seem hell bent on us heading into a recession. Making people panic and stop spending.

They should be telling everyone its all gravy.

Only area Ive felt it is diesel. £154 to fill my van the other day. That's taking the piss.

Not really, paid £7 the other day, that's pretty much the price of a pint in Central London.

Thank fuck I'm not in Central London.

For several reasons.

“You find no man, at all intellectual, who is willing to leave London. Sir, when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford.”

The thing about London is you can spend millions on a house and still have an estate of feral scotes on your doorstep.

No ta.

My greenking contract just cut back from monthly cleans, some fortnightly to bi-monthly. Thats after cancelling from December to March.

Effectively 5 cleans a year on gaffs less than a mile from the sea.

Absolute buffoons. Theyll look like shit and fucks me over in the process.

Hope they see the error of their ways soon enough. Could do with someone taking over the former Yates’ on the seafront and getting the contract for that.

No, just rather live in London than on a new build. Anywhere.

And I'd rather live in London than Bolton TBF.

Another quote from Samuel Johnson (The Rambler 1750/1752).

"If a man thinks I'm paying £7 a pint for fizzy shite he can think again".

Negroni is not fizzy shite my good man

You'll have to take that up with Sam, it's his quote.

Having said that seven quid a tankard and it's not even fizzy........

Edit: I've just Googled Negroni, and it's not even a beer. I apologise to NiC for not doing my homework, and Samuel Johnson for blackguarding him.

New shit has come to light.

Well done if your getting a Negroni for £7 in London, it is probably £12 in Wetherspoons.

Completely get that on the rather live in London. I work down there and one point I wanted to live in London before I met my wife, kids, grew older etc. Now it’s the other way round and No contest it’s Bolton

Well, I do want to move back North in a few years. Not sure where though - but as much as I love it, and no one can slag it off unless you are from there, I can't see myself in Bolton again - although Manchester is getting just as pricey!

Plenty of decent places to be fair. I like Bolton, I see no reason to move unless it’s for money as my life is here. Being away as long as I suspect you have, you’ll not have that restriction as such. If you’ll still commute to london I’d choose something south of Manchester as that last bit of the commute makes a big difference for me imo.

Yeah there will still be days in London, all my family is in Bolton and Sale/Stockport so it'd be lovely to be closer and see my nephew's more but my kids will be scattered everywhere in 6/7 years!

My youngest is 11 and determined to move to Bolton as she loves it!

I wouldnt want to spend any more on a house than i did to live here, so i cant afford a big detached with land and a pool and 300 days of sunshine in the UK

For that reason, i have no wish to live anywhere else, def not London

Its fantastic for an away day, but tbh, so is peterbrough

Im at an age where i can have a cracking night out within 20 minutes walk or even sat in the garden

Some noisy neighbours mind

Started going from Wigan as it’s slightly better. If I get back around 9pm it’s nigh on impossible to get a direct from Piccadilly to B Town.

I went to a meeting in London on Tuesday. 1 hr 55 mins train, wonderful. Only problem was that it took 1 hr 10 mins to drive the 6 miles to Wigan station 🙈

Coming back was a belter though. Left Euston at half 7 and walked through the front door at 9.59

I wouldn’t want to live in any big city anymore and definitely not Bolton. The town has been stripped of all the character it once had. There are no restored mills to show what the town was famous for, the football ground has gone, the Palais has gone, Preston’s of Bolton gone, the train station is shrunk and all the shops are closing in the market place.

That’s it. You can’t argue the Wigan to Euston bit. That seems to have gone down. I get the train from Bolton as I think it will be quicker than driving from where I am. It normally always ruins the trip though.
