September 8, 20223 yr My gut feeling is that everything will be off but this guy does have a point. It's obviously totally unprecedented but I wonder in this discussion with the government whether the PL will be saying we're already pushed for availability before WC starts, and how much sway they'll have.
September 8, 20223 yr Playing the games would allow hundreds of thousands of people to pay their respects at once.
September 8, 20223 yr Funeral won't be for about 8 or 9 days from now - and I am led to believe that day will be a public holiday. I agree that games should go ahead this weekend and people should be allowed to pay their respects at those matches.

I can understand next weekend when the funeral is scheduled for, but surely it’s too late for this weekend with the cost / inconvenience and what people will do without sport.
September 8, 20223 yr It will already be decided, talk of discussions are purely because they don’t want to be accused of insensitivity by announcing so soon. Very much expect all games to be off this Friday, Saturday and Sunday and everything off on the day of the funeral too (presumably next Saturday - maybe shift all the games to Sunday?)

September 8, 20223 yr Rotherham and the likes will probably blame us for unfairly benefitting as the Queen passed through Bolton once in the 60s. Not sure cancelling this weekends fixtures achieves anything.

September 8, 20223 yr When Diana snuffed it, they cancelled Sunday matches but we played Monday. Hopefully be the same this weekend, off Friday only

September 8, 20223 yr Life goes on, what does cancelling events this weekend actually achieve? The day of her funeral is a different kettle of fish obvs.
