The Queen

Seems to have taken a turn for the worse.

She is 96.

  • RIP. Very sad.  Whether you're Royalist, anti-Royalist or somewhere in between.  For the vast majority of us, she's been our Queen for all our lives.  Feels strange that it's no longer the case.

  • She did this. And she probably didn’t have to because she was the Queen. But she did. What a woman.

Some pressure on those lads carrying the coffin up those steps.

Said the same to my missus. Pressures been on them all day. On about the 4th time they've had to carry it today

Was thinking just that.

Just the 4 billion watching worldwide lads.

Lead lined and full of jewells as well just for a laugh.

They were also selected because they were strong, that's one tough gig.

Wonder if they’ll be given the (probably unwanted) title ‘celebrity’ following their exposure over the past few days.

2 of my mates had the honour of carrying Sir Jimmy Saviles 🤦‍♂️BE3C7FAD-FC46-48B9-8518-79C75AB16585.thumb.jpeg.47498b7b6c1cf3f20a2fb9efdd90aabf.jpeg

I've discovered today that I quite enjoy choral dirges!

Awww man! I've got so many recordings you'd love then. Studied some at uni and fell in love with them.

Any evensong is stunning, I do miss that from living in Cambridge but honestly, musically they are breathtaking.

Went to see evensong in Durham this summer, just beautiful.

Quite like the cistercian chant stuff on the odd occasion.

Quite relaxing.

Bugger knows what it all means though.

I've just bought 'Now That's What I Call Funereal Dirges Volume 5'

Oh yeah, wouldn't even pretend to know.

Had a mate (had 5 kids) Christian and lived in Winchester. One of his boys got a choral scholarship, boarding school the full nine yards.

Anyway...Dinosaur Jr live in October?!?!?

9Why do the queens guard dudes wear the strap under the lip rather than chin?

Don't know, but guess it's a safety thing- those hats must weigh a lot, and if someone pulled it back, there'd be plenty of leverage on the neck.

Could be bollocks though.

Dunno if you've ever visited Bolton Abbey, but when you walk in the "working" bit, and it's playing, it's incredibly atmospheric. Hairs on your arms tingle.

Deffo needs a donk on it

It does, I'm not religious but it's beautiful

I’d been ok until they lowered her into the floor and that piper set off.

Yep. Always the toughest bit.

When they disappear behind the curtain...

Hard to not be emotional listening to bagpipes. Few times today they've nearly had me.

It’s like watching paint dry, just been in laws they’ve been watching all day, I had to press the eject button, back home now.

Yeh that’s the subject matter and open to opinion, but I’m on about the feat of live broadcasting such an event without any obvious signs you are doing so in any of the shots.

Agree the coverage is excellent, that’s from the little of it I’ve seen. Would of been interesting to see footage from a drone but perhaps that would be a tad disrespectful.

Well it's a free country. Why you think anyone is interested in what you are doing is another matter

Casino suggested I was missing out.

As it's a free country I suggested I wasn't. That ok?

Not sure what you expected, nor would have wanted. Meant to be a solemn occasion, but with visibility for the people.

Absolutely emaculate. Planning, pomp and professionalism at its finest.

She was never going to be whisked away at high speed, nor was the music ever going to be particularly upbeat.

I've never been in the military, but I have been in brass bands and played in many ceremonial events.

Marching and playing is bloody tough, keeping in step, whilst avoiding bursting your lips whilst stumbling on a rough bit if road.

The length of time they play for was is also demanding.

A tremendous performance from everyone.

Agreed on all points… just not for me to waste my day watching it all. 10 minutes was enough.
