The Queen

Seems to have taken a turn for the worse.

She is 96.

  • RIP. Very sad.  Whether you're Royalist, anti-Royalist or somewhere in between.  For the vast majority of us, she's been our Queen for all our lives.  Feels strange that it's no longer the case.

  • She did this. And she probably didn’t have to because she was the Queen. But she did. What a woman.

Funeral of The Day, just after the news.

Looking forward to Own Goal of the Decade, at the end of the show.

Prince Andrew must be favourite for his fine solo effort. Prince Harry’s was more or a team effort, with Meghan Markle’s splendid assist.

Not being a snob, but fucking hell.

Only one word to describe the whole thing really. Magnificent!!

Drove across to Bolton to sit and watch it with my mother. An 85 year old out and out royalist. The cynic in me was saying that the “costumes” that some folk were wearing made it look like a cross between “It’s A Knockout” and a Shakespeare production from “Bolton Little Theatre” in the ‘70s. She soon had me convinced that to lose the tradition and spectacle would be flushing our history down the toilet.

Dont think I’ve ever driven to her house and seen the roads so quiet. It was eery. From the end of St Peter’s Way right up to near Eagley there was barely a car on the road. After watching the funeral I stood outside her front door just after the coffin set off from Wellington Arch to Windsor. Absolute silence. No traffic. No folk. Nothing.

Today was definitely one for the memory bank

I actually did some learning today, I wanted to know why the Royal Navy were more involved than the RAF, the Army and the Marines, Google told me, I was happy to learn

The monarchy is the least of anyones worries

I just watched the highlights.

Well it's history innit?

Can't imagine the work involved in organising that.

My Rangers comment was just a joke brother.

I've got friends up here who support both teams and it would be a massive loss if they left. Unlike you I can see both sides to it. I'm not completely oblivious to some of the awful anti-Irish songs that Rangers fans sing. And I'm not willing to forgive them (your words) because they respect the Queen. Neither am I saying the Green Brigade are innocent. It was just funny seeing the hypocrisy of the right wing press meltdown the other day.

All perfectly summed up by your good self when you took offence at the Fuck the Crown banner but thought making a famine joke was fine 👍

Glasgow wouldn't be what it is without the Irish immigrant influence. From music to industry, It's a richer city for it and the connection is special. And of course the same applies to the British influence.

I thought as an immigrant this is something you'd also understand?

As for your economic rant about Scotland.... Hows the state of the British public purse? Everything booming? Can't blame folk for wanting an alternative form of economics.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...................................

It was very quiet here in Perth. Other than rush hour, we were astounded at how quiet the roads were.

Seems almost everyone was watching it. We have a memorial here on Thursday and we'll be there.

The whole thing was outstanding. I do not believe that any other country could match that. Yes, maybe colour and pageantry. Gravitas? No one could come close. The British public know. No other head of state would get such a response from her subjects.

Mind boggling to think that she was a descendent of Alfred The Great and William The Conqueror not to mention Old King Cole. 1200 years of history and on it goes.

Does if you read it back to yourself in the style of Al Pacino.

You only have to look at comments from world leaders. Macron saying she wasnt just our Queen but The Queen.

Most famous lady on the planet by some margin.

Over 4 Billion people watching worldwide watching a funeral in little old England.

Unbelievable spectacle.

Fuck me, there's so much wrong with our country right now, but nobody and I mean nobody could have put on what we put on yesterday and each day since the Queen passed.

We're unrivalled in the world for tradition, pomp and ceremony and jesus, did we put on a show yesterday.

Let's not discuss the money, the politics and the monarchy in general here, that's for elsewhere, but suffice to say Elizabeth did her best for us and the country did its best in return yesterday.

Sleep Well, Ma'am.

4 billion don't have TVs, that number is bollocks

Be interested to know how much money was generated by the monarchy in the last 2 weeks.

My guess is that even in her final days, she made us a tidy profit.

If that’s your thing with the monarchy.

Its not mine.
