Replay was at the Reebok. Nolan scored a late equaliser in the first game at their place.

When its freezing, me and my mate often refer back to that game as the benchmark of being cold at the Reebok.  Never knowingly been colder, about 6k of us watching a poor cup tie in January, going to extra time that started at 10pm.

Coincidentally the coldest I can remember being at Burnden was another FA Cup tie v Tranmere that went to E-T (we won 4-1 after it was 1-1 at 90, Chandler scored a cracker).

All 3 were I think. Pretty sure they went 1-0 up and we scored 3 in about 20 mins.

I remember that.  Wasn't the game originally called off, hence it was moved to midweek.  I've got vague memories of police saying they couldn't police it on the original date due to our expected support, and their manager Johnny King made a sarcastic reference to it in his programme notes, something like "welcome to BW and their thousands of fans".  Obviously for midweek we only took about 1,000 but it was a rare great night there.

Hoofed it down, waterlogged pitch. We had parked up before hearing it was off.

I think the one you're mentioning was a couple of seasons earlier. Tranmere were bottom of L2 (or close to it) and called it off because of lack of police. By the time it was played, they had come into some form and beat us 2-0. We'd have walloped them if it was played when it should have been.

Thanks for the correction, got them mixed up.  Went to 3 night matches at Tranmere from 87 to 91.  First as you say was Div 4, Dec 87, the start of their revival under John King when the game was replayed - bottom of league when first game should have been.  Crowd swelled to 3,064 by our numbers!  Then the Storer game, Jan 1990, 3-1 win.

March 91 there were over 10k on when Patterson equalised for us in a promotion 6 pointer, they put us in the corner of the main stand opposite end to where our fans were packed onto the terrace.

The cup tie was 84 (stood out as first time I'd ever seen us in cup at 1st round stage, we'd just gone down to Div 3).

Worthy didn't go to Tranmere till about 85, he played at Burnden in Sherpa Van, crowd kept singing his name more than getting behind the team.

Player manager wasnt he? Substitute that night - Seemed to remember him taking the longest warm up session ever known to take the adulation from the Bolton fans

Saw us win 3-1 there late 80’s probably, early January. Should have played them a few days earlier but it was postponed for a waterlogged pitch.

The music they played on the way out was ‘we’re on the road to nowhere’.

I was at the Whitlow game too.

No intention of going to this

A fine win that was. Enjoyable.

I think crazy legs scored that day, not sure.
