I don't know about Lammy. I'm not his press person. Write to him and ask him. He'd probably reply to you if you did 😁

I've mentioned on here before - I have a newsapp called ground news which is designed to give me a range of opinions from across different media on important topics. It also gives me an idea of what the political angle of the news source I am reading is - so that I can check for blindspots. You should give it a go.

I know who you're talking about now (presumably Ahmed al-Sharaa, not Ahmed al-Sahara). And you're right - it was controversial at the time. But probably the right move to try and get him onside in my opinion. And one mirrored by most western democracies including the US. There's a discretionary element to these decisions based on the weight of geopolitical considerations I suppose.

You seem like a rule of law absolutist. Which is fine in principle. Probably even admirable. But difficult to apply in reality. Nothing wrong with that take.  Although I don't remember you making this argument during DTs state visit. Although I'm happy to be corrected if I'm wrong.

Because my thoughts are the opposite. I criticised those dossers that went out demonstrating against him. I’m saying it should be the same for everyone, if Trump is allowed in and Ahmed bla bla bla allowed in then an elected politician from a European ally should also be allowed.

That's what I meant by a rule of law absolutist.

You think it should be applied to everybody in exactly the same way, regardless of their position, power or prestige. With no discretion applied.

And in an ideal world I might agree with you. But I'm a bit more pragmatic than that in my philosophy. In reality, I think we do have to take into account someone's influence (or how much we're hoping to influence someone else) when we're making decisions like this. As well as how much of a negative or positive influence someone might have on the country.

Which elected politician are you taking about by the way?

Polish MEP. Reckons he’s going to sue Starmer. I saw it in the Telegraph but it’s a paywall.

Dominik Tarczyński

The same guy who attended last years March that passed pretty much incident free. Not sure what influence he passed last year to make him banned for this years?

“You cannot appeal this decision” so a politician wanting to enter can’t appeal, murderers, rapists etc getting kicked out can appeal and are allowed to stay 😆😆😆 someone make it all make sense.

I bet he doesn't sue Starmer, he's just showboating

If he tries to, I hope he live streams the call to his solicitor

I'm not sure. All I can read about last year is that he led the crowd in a chant of 'send them back'. He also shared an video of Renee Good being shot with the wording "Good Job ICE! FAFO"

Not sure that should automatically warrant him being banned from the UK. But maybe there's more to it than that?

I can see why it could be argued that having him here is 'not in the public good' though.

Performative bullshit.

If there was no hate speech and it was a peaceful  rally, as LW said, then what the fuck was Lammy on about?

I said it was majority peaceful

 both protests were

Some people were literally arrested for hate speech though, which I assume was what Lammy was talking about. I’m by no means supportive of everything he & Starmer do, but I think they’re right to criticise the UTK movement. Just as they’ve been critical of elements of the pro Palestine movement.

Ironic to say the least hearing you attempt to argue foreigners should have the same rights as British citizens 😂

A man who described gay people as sick and in need of help

Let’s welcome him in with open arms shall we?

he’s not banned bdw, just wasn’t allowed his short term visa for the protest.

The irony of TR complaining about Muslim values not being compatible with western values. Whilst seeking ties with homophobic extremists abroad … the fucking loon

I understand folks anger about illegal immigrants entering who we know nothing about though.

Maybe he can come on a boat for the next demo 😉

Why assume when he says the organisers? He then lies about the number of arrests. Basically waffling and lying through his speech and of course you agree with him. All very strange

He didn’t need to come. I think they did a live stream from Poland on a big screen. No idea what he said but I bet it included something about free speech. Probably made more publicity than if he’d actually come. I doubt anyone would be talking about it now if he did.

Don't think many people are talking about it to be honest

Because he said 'when a protest turns violent we will put extra capacity in place'... and he also refers to the organisers spreading hate and division. Seems pretty clear he's speaking about both those attending and those organising.

I've looked at his tweet again. really don't think it's that strange. And yes - I do agree with what he's getting across in the tweet, & the interview, I think a lot of people would.

I'd be more concerned about some of the people behind the UTK movement than how well Lammy conducted himself in that TV interview.

So which of those organising were arrested? Anyone with half a brain cell knows he’s trying to pin all those arrests on the unite march, it was only when he was questioned he started waffling about not seeing the breakdown.

Im more concerned about the deputy PM bullshitting and waffling on TV

Seems pretty obvious he's referring to the organisers and the people who he prevented from entering the country as well. The points he makes in the tweet and the interview aren't just about those arrested.

Think most of the arrests were from the UTK march weren't they? Not sure he needed to know the exact breakdown to justify his argument. Although I agree with you that he should have. I also think the fella interviewing makes a bit of a tit of himself by telling him he needed to be there to have an opinion.

I'm more concerned by these foreign extremists and the rise of the UTK movement than a poor interview from a Labour MP to be honest.

Think we just have to agree to disagree on that one

He should be placed on tarmac and run over on his head by a tractor driven by a robot.

Does anyone on here want to say they are a Tommy Robinson fan?

just to clarify I'm talking about the bloke himself as opposed to his politics.

Not for me, he lost any credibility as a human being when he posted a video harrassing random worshippers leaving a mosque and getting in their face about hate preachers and terrorists etc......I have family who are staunch Catholics and would be livid if someone did the same to them about IRA atrocities.

it's a bit odd isn't it, he's not particularly doing anything wrong other than being a pain in the arse, but if he was Asian, I'm sure this would be going massively viral by now (it may be already, I'm not on twitter)

Whatever creed or colour he is he's a danger.

What I meant was, I'm not sure what he's doing is illegal, or an arrestable offence.......don't get me wrong, I'd have been happy enough if he'd been stabbed to death then and there on the spot, because it's weird and creepy. As I said, if the bloke filming was Asian, people like Tommeh would already be jumping all over it

I'm also not sure why her mother wanted to have a photo of her daughter with those two pissed up peado types either.

The whole video is just odd

You do seem to have a preoccupation with folk being murdered.

That's acceptable in your league of atrocities is it?

How on earth he holds the position he does never ceases to amaze me, he always comes across as thick as fuck.

Quite simple. A thick fucker who offers zero challenge to the leaders position.

Well it was headlines in the Telegraph, Guardian and Independent. Maybe others🤷‍♂️

Together with other media outlets.

Including here.

It is a big story, and simply adds a little more to the growing tension in the country around creeping state control.
