Which is still higher than the blue. Also coincides with HMOS going up.

As have hotels. 😂

It’s more the people who are being put in them.

All I’m pointing  out kidda is that since Labour have been in power the use of hotels has gone up. Also in that time the use of HMOS has gone up, due to numerous schemes such as serco (Introduced by the Conservative Party). You don’t need to understand planning laws to know this.

You do

University towns and cities have seen a rise in the number of HMOs or student houses

It's become a problem but under planning law, as things stand, you can't do a lot to stop them

So in your figures between HMOs for students and those for migrants, how do you differentiate between the two?

HMOS for students have students in. HMOS for asylum seekers have asylum seekers in. They’re also paid for by the government.

I never mentioned anything about stopping them, I just said they’re going up.

HMOs are HMOs regardless of who is staying in them

You might need a licence from the Council but that doesn't discriminate whether it's boat people or just generally scrotes, students or whstever

You really do need to read up on this. Start with the Council's SMHAA  for starters

Cool Story, but you’re completely missing the point.

He means the HMO system is being used for Asylum folk more now than it was before as they are running out of hotels to put them in.

Not sure why he has to read up on anything. The discussion is about asylum seekers.

Just wait till the HMOs are full, they'll be coming to a rental near you...

Jury's out on the Manchester airport assault trial.  Should be both interesting and worrying, to see the verdicts and the reaction.

I can't see them getting anything other than guilty

They should get sent down and for a long stretch

I worry they will get less than someone who posted something on twitter during the riots

I'm taking to the streets if they aren't hanged.

My point, which I probably put over badly, was that it's very difficult to stop the rise of HMOs

Whether that be for asylum seekers, students or benefit scrotes

When I worked in East Yorkshire in Bridlington there are plenty of former guest houses and hotels full of scrotes from West Yorkshire. Why get your universal credit in a shit area of Leeds when you can get it by the seaside

The abuse of the HMO rule is nothing new and has been going on for years, ots just this time it's a different type of tenant

They need to be given a seriously big stretch.

anything less and the reaction will be pretty nasty I think.

That's my worry, imagine what'll happen if they do

Problem is the sentencing guidelines

The Govt don't like riots so the punishment is heavy

Read an article about a lawyer who represented folk nicked in the London riots

He basically had to tell them from the start, "you're fucked"  and despite all his legal background there was never going to be any other outcome other than a hefty sentence

Been getting in some miles walking around crompton lodges over the last week.

Being the inclusive talkative approachable chap I am.. I always say hello.

Had a fair few people asking me directions and they've all been ethnic minorities (if such a thing exists in Bolton any more), most saying they are new to the area and exploring the countryside.

No issue there but there does seem to be an influx to the area and my step mum pointed out there's been a fair few black families coming to church recently having come to the area.

Watched my hotels go through the mill with it here.

For years it was a holiday zone. No property could be used for anything other than holiday type use.

Covid came and they opened a loophole to allow them to house folk with nowhere else to go.

They then forgot to close that loophole and all hell broke loose.

One street went from a lovely street with family run hotels to being overran with HMO full of crack addicts with little or no regulation.

The hotels in this area spent thousands fighting to reinstall the area as holiday zone, they got rid of many of the HMOs, and then a large connecting area was converted into the rainbow quarter to make a safe haven inclusive run of gay friendly bars and hotels.

Lovely.

...but now that loophole seems to have found itself back open again and various gaffs are being used to house migrants.

Half the b&bs and hotels are now up for sale and the only people buying them are Asian/Eastern European folk.

Safe to say their reasons for buying the said properties aren't to make fried breakfasts for tourists in a morning and do illuminations family specials.

How to decimate a local economy in one foul swoop.

....as well as fund the building of a 200 bed hot a stones throw away plus give planning for 4 other mega hotel chain gaffs in the region too. But that's a different story all together.

Cunts.

It's a disgrace what they've allowed to happen to Blackpool, I'm not sure it can ever recover now. A shame, as it was only about 10 years ago there was talk of this super casino, and loads of redevelopment, and they did do a load of work up near the North Pier* to make it look nicer, i seem to recall, certainly on the Prom bit.

I've not been up there in years, so I hope I'm a bit wide of the mark and it can be saved

* @gonzois this still where I'd need to hang out, if I wanted a good bumming?

Bridlington doesn't have the pull that Blackpool has but a load of guest houses that were on their arses

But there was a holiday protection zone which meant they couldn't convert to anything else despite being on their arses

Loads just changed to HMOs without permission knowing nothing will happen

Then they lifted the protection zone and invited Travelodge in to build on a prime site killing off the hotels they originally wanted to protect

On the flip side in Goole, if you look up the word shithole it will be in the definition, theres loads of HMOs though they are filled with Polish workers going out to pick lettuces at 6am

As a form of accommodation they have their uses its just impossible to control the tenant
