Allen Carr (not the goofy “comedian”) writes books about how to stop drinking and/or smoking.

My sister read it a few years back and, whilst she want a full on alky, was overdoing the booze.

After reading this book, she hasn’t touched a drop since. Not one.

So, as a challenge, I said I’d read the book and prove that this kind of thing doesn’t really work and that she was just ready to stop anyway.

about 2 weeks ago, I reached just over the halfway point. Since then, I’ve probably had 2 pints and one glass of wine, none of which I particularly enjoyed.

I’m annoyed for several reasons:

* I adore a drink, and I feel the pleasure has been stolen from me

* My sister was right and I was wrong about the book

* I feel somehow invaded by this author who I never invited into my life in the first place.

* I want a beer, but don’t want a beer. It’s fucking WEIRD.

 

I need help in getting back on the horse.

Im not going to preach, but if you really want to kick the booze (he does fags as well), then I’m here to tell you, brothers and sisters, that this fucker works.

Day 39. Not really missed it. Had a couple of 0% Guinness. A few 0% gins and gave that Three Spirit - Social Elixir a try last Friday. Was a bit hit and miss. Didn’t get the “you will be the heart and soul of the party” feeling after 3 drinks.

After one (accidental) pint in what will be by then 39 days, I’m looking forward to a good sup at Peterborough. Need to make sure I have a decent tea though or otherwise I’ll be chasing that last pint at daft o’clock and wake up with the absolute fear on Sunday.

Took me a day or so to realise I’d even had it. Went to Miller & Carter last week and instinctively ordered a pint of Estrella. Only pint I’ve had since Barnsley away though.

Should really have gone for food but carried on drinking instead. Ended up in an altercation with two blokes who were giving shit to a woman they seemed to know. Luckily I only ended up with my nose plastered across my face and nothing worse as I’m sure could have been easily the case. I still think it was morally the right thing to do in terms of even just disrupting them, but in pure common sense terms I was a fucking idiot to put me and my other half in such a position and certainly wouldn’t have done if I wasn’t pissed up. Hotel were fantastic patching me up and that. Lesson learned, I hope.

Appreciate that, cheers. Those that know me will testify that I won’t have intimidated them in the slightest and I just hope I didn’t make the situation worse for the poor girl.

I have decided to have a big cut down in the amount and how often I drink.  Should be able to shift some pounds then.

I haven’t been since 99 Bolton holidays week. I know it was done by then but so many Bolton fans were out there. I’d assume it’s changed a bit.

I was there second week of January. It’s ok is all I’d say. Whatever ‘type’ of person you are you’ll find somewhere catering for you. Within a few hours of your first night you’ll find places you’d never go again and places you love. 
On our first night I went to a Karaoke bar owned by an old Fire Brigade mate. On our way back to hotel we passed The Royal Arrow pub which was advertising San Miguel at two pints for €3. Well, I say passed…

We went back a few times!
